The University Athletic Association took the next step in a $130-million facilities upgrade Friday, announcing details about the new stand alone football facility, a new baseball stadium and significant renovations to the softball stadium.

The announcement from the athletic department came after the University of Florida Board of Trustees approved a bond resolution for $50 million for Phase II of UAA’s Facilities Master Plan.

Per state of Florida debt management guidelines, the Board of Governors still has to approve the bond resolution at the end of June.

The stand alone football facility will be constructed on the site of the current baseball stadium (McKethan Stadium) at a cost of $65 million. Construction is expected to begin in late 2019 or early 2020, with a goal of completion in 2021.

Looks good and in the end will be better than the other alternatives that had been discussed. Cost somewhat more and takes longer but of course we are in this for the long term, not the short one.

Completion expected to be in 2021. Great, we’ll only be 15 years behind by then.

Everything looks really nice. Interesting spot for the new baseball stadium. I use to drive past the orange grove/peach tree orchard every day for 9 years. Traffic will suck on Hull road unless they cut an entrance from Archer Rd and IFAS Research Drive.

The past is basically irrelevant at this point. Our former "leaders" did what they did, and didn't do what they didn't do. This is a huge step in the right direction, and our lateness to the party only means that our facilities will be newer and more up to date than some others that have been in place for a while. The individuals responsible for scraping the shat off our shoes, and finally joining the 21st century, deserve our respect and appreciation. I see really good things happening almost everyday to a program that was badly in need of a change in leadership and direction. Go Gators!

That road is in the master plan. There are also plans for luxury dorms on part of the abandoned baseball field.
This plan is so much better than the buck tooth twins plan which would have been outdated before it was even completed.
The only bad part of this plan is 3 years 8 months move in day for football.

Still means next recruiting class will get to see it... so that is good.

There is zero reason to invest this much money into college baseball. Zero.

I don’t know the details, but making room for an adequately sized football complex is a good reason (the previous plan looked like they were cramming 10 pounds of crap into a 5 pound bag). Although, I saw someone suggest relocating T&F would be cheaper, which might be the better answer. Maybe they put a premium on proximity to both the practice facility and the stadium?
