Some good recruiting info here (and what is a "powerball throw"?):

http://www.gatorcountry.com/florida...cruiting-targets-test-numbers-at-the-opening/

The Opening took place last weekend in Beaverton, Oregon where the 166 players in the country participated in the three-day event that included the Sparq challenge and a 7-on-7 tournament.

The Sparq challenge measures your forty-yard dash time, how far you throw the powerball, the vertical jump and the shuttle run.

All of those numbers are factored into your height and weight to give you a ratings score and several of the Florida Gators recruiting targets did well.

Safety Devon Hunter (Indian River High, Virginia)-6-1, 206-pounds, 4.42 forty, 3.95 shuttle run, 38.5 powerball throw, 38.9 vertical jump to give him a score of 139.53.

2019 linebacker Owen Pappoe (Grayson High, Georgia)- 6-0 197-pounds, 4.57 forty, 4.01 shuttle run, 40 powerball throw, 38.3 vertical jump to give him a score of 129.12

Defensive back Marco Wilson (American Heritage, FL)- 6-0, 180, 4.42 forty, 4.09 shuttle run, 36.5 powerball throw, 38.8 vertical jump to give him a score of 122.28.

Miami defensive back commit C.J. Henderson (Columbus High, FL.)- 6-1, 179, 4.37 forty, 3.92 shuttle run, 34-powerball throw, 35.1 vertical jump to give him a score of 119.79.

Alabama safety commit Xavier McKinney (Roswell High, GA.)- 6-1, 192-pounds, 4.59 forty, 4.21 shuttle run, 36 powerball thorw, 36.7 vertical jump for a score of 106.8.

(and what is a "powerball throw"?):

Google led to YouTube which showed athletes kneeling (on a kneepad) at a given yard marker. They appear to heave a heavy ball (size of a volleyball, appears to weigh upwards of 10-15lbs). The athelete launches the ball from their chest using both arms and tries to get as much distance as possible, and that is how they are rated. Skills essential to the game, of course.

Thanks. That's odd. I wonder where they came up w/ that. You'd think doing a bench press max out would be good (repping out at 225 like the NFL does....maybe 185 for HS kids would be better?)...

Powerball is probably a better way to measure explosive strength. Particularly for lineman.
