When you get the wind knocked out of you, pulling up on the belt helps you breathe again. Not sure why this is (maybe one of our resident docs can explain) but I can tell you from experience it works.

Though in this case, it looks like the pants are too stretchy for that technique to be effective.

My experience is that this is used for when you get hit lower than where the wind is coming from.
This lifting exercise helps you to recover when the family jewels take a direct hit.

I would much rather have the wind knocked out of me.

I like this play.

I always though that play was stupid. When it goes well, you get three yards. When it goes poorly, well....
