For a few years it’s been odd to see this but with a few exceptions Mcaffery Edelman Theilen Sehorn John Lynch etc...but Clemson is recruiting a white kid at RB that has a sub 4.5 40...I’ve always wondered about the physiological/mental skill set reasons for positions in football relative to race...typically Kickers QBs Lineman (Inc TE) and LBs are usually the white guys on a team...just a weird trend I’ve looked at over the seasons and it’s far more common at the skill positions out west and at smaller CUSA and sunbelt type schools...not really going anywhere with this but it just seems interesting to me

McCaffery: RB at Stanford. Not exactly small school but instead a highly intelligent school.

Edelman: QB at College of San Mateo and Kent State.

Thielen: Played for Minnesota State Mankato University for 4 years as a Receiver and also on KO and Return. Before that he played Baseball and Golf at a high level.

Sehorn: 2 years at Shasta College and 1 year at Redding JC where he played DB and Returner, then went the USC for 2 years a a WR.

Lynch: Stated on the Stanford Baseball and Football Teams. Mosty played football as a Backup QB but switched to DB late in his Stanford career. Was drafted by the Florida Marlins.

Bottom line, your theory, is these Dudes are extremely intelligent in their position and could be argued in other positions.

No just that there seems to be different skill sets relative to race that trend in sports and it’s interesting is all...basketball golf swimming and tennis are usually made up of different races in pockets...sometimes socioeconomic differences play a role such as with golf swimming and tennis...height and athleticism with basketball are physiological...I just thinks it’s interesting the more we come together as human beings the way that things are the same and different...take hockey and soccer for example, there’s trends in that as well relative to regions in the world...and even baseball is made up and participated in differently by culture and race...defined by region and heritage...nothing different than noticing that bluegrass and nascar is still relatively regional and racial specific just like food choices and accent...if you took this as a eugenic argument relative to a superiority or ad hominem argument shame then shame on you for that...it was just an odd trend to witness in all things and how it translates into culture and is racial specific as well whether it’s Asian/Hispanic relative to the records in sports such as baseball vs track and how the strong man competition is usually people from Northern Europe and Samoa...why is cricket and rugby made up of the best players in certain cultures...sorry if y’all took that like I meant anything different but there aren’t many world record holders in sprinting that are Asian or hockey that are black...

It’s just odd that the overall makeup of winners of the Cy young and NBA MVP are so different but still great athletes and intelligent but in different ways it’s fascinating

huh?

It has everything to do with opportunity. Most white families in the United States just have better access to elite primary education. They are less likely to come from a broken home and thus have better access to education and cerebral opportunity. They become engineers, doctors, financiers, etc... Parents aren’t allowing them to put their bodies and brains at risk through violent contact sports.

There are still plenty of white baseball players, swimmers, gymnasts, and golfers. Non-contact to a certain extent.

Surprised that nobody has given the actually scientific answer to this so I will go ahead and do it.

People have two general types of skeletal muscle fibers: slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II). Slow-twitch muscles help enable long-endurance feats such as distance running, while fast-twitch muscles fatigue faster but are used in powerful bursts of movements like sprinting.

Black people GENERALLY are more proned to having fast-twitch muscles when compared to white people.

This (EDIT: Racist article that I didn't read all the way through before I posted) talks a little bit about it (EDIT: and does a bad job cause it's pretty racist so yeahhh it's pretty bad). Race, genes, and sports.

EDIT: Here's a better link which I should have posted instead of the above one. It's an actual scientific abstract from a study, that mentions that black people tend to have a greater number of fast twitch muscles. Black and White race differences in aerobic capacity, muscle fiber type, and their influence on metabolic processes. - PubMed - NCBI

This article is totally racist. Jimmy the Greek Snyder lost his entire career when he was overheard saying this exact same thing in a restaurant. That was 1988. I'd like to think we've evolved as a society since then, but I guess not. Just take a look at this excerpt:

"Whites have softer muscles, which is why white [athletes] have to rely more on skill, innate intelligence, grit and leadership prowess than blacks..."

I, for one, find that quote to be offensive and an acute slander. The notion that whites somehow have inferior, ("softer") muscles is a smear against so many hard-working white athletes who have already been the subject of systemic bigotry when it comes to getting more NFL jobs as RBs, WRs, & DBs. Sad.

oof I admit I didn't read the whole thing....that is really bad. The fast twitch vs slow twitch muscles thing I know to be true but that article...yikes. Sorry for posting that. Edited my original post a little bit to address that.

No, it was completely deleted and I'll never know why. A perfectly innocuous thread about the lack of disciplined play by the Kiwis and some self-important mod deleted it. Sad.
