His "guy" is playing QB. If you bother to recall, the insider's scoop last year was that Del Rio would have been the QB over Grier and Harris.
What if "his" QB, the next one, sucks too?
Franks is a guy with all the stars, but, especially since Tebow left, has that made any difference. I didn't watch Franks in high school, but I did see him in the All-Star game and in the Spring game. He looked horrible.
Trask is a project, unless you think Nussmeier is a genius that saw something no one else did.
The next wunderkind, Jake Allen, supposedly, looks like crap on the high school field.
A transfer? I wonder if McElwain can attract someone other than a Purdue reject or a guy who looks like he'd b a bench warmer at most schools.
McElwain isn't going anywhere, but I think it's inevitable he'll be fired. The only question is when.
Del rio was his qb. He recruited him at csu and nuss had him at bama . Mac thought del rio was the next John parker Wilson .This is stupid. At least let him get his guy at QB in the game before firing him.
You can like him for some of the reasons you state, but "spent his own money to help buy out his contract at C-State." is not valid. Just where do you think that money is coming from? It's not from his pocket, I assure you. It's being paid by UF. It was just a way to have Foley save face after he looked like an idiot coming back to Gainesville without McElwain. Foley, being the Super Genius he has always thought he was, thought he could play the part of big, bad A.D. from UF and intimidate CSU into accepting less than what he, clearly, knew was the price for McElwain. His gigantic ego was bruised and he came back to Gainesville looking like a fool. Of course he couldn't back down and pay the asking price, since he's a Super Genius, so the farce of McElwain paying to come to Gainesville was born.My ire is now aimed at Foley. How can he be this bad of a judge of coaching talent, again and again? I was high on Mac at the beginning, cool guy, no socks ever, spent his own money to help buy out his contract at C-State. This year has been shocking as his total ineptitude as a coach has been laid out for all to see. No fire in himself or his players. Not much will to win, especially if the other team has one. No game management, no halftime (or any) adjustments, no sideline coaching. Shyte recruiting. And he seems happy with all of it. No mental problem mailing in losses instead of making changes to right the ship. He's making millions for not even trying to do his job and we all know it now. Does anyone think this Phuktard will turn into a butterfly next year and soar? We could waste another 4 years waiting for him to be a real coach and we will be competing with whoever the current bottom feeder is to avoid being last in the SECE in 2020. Cut the damage short and fire him now. He just has no skill for this job. Thanks Foley.

After the way UF finished the season last year, which was embarrassing, Foley gave him a raise and, I think, an extension of his contract. Foley didn't learn anything from doing the same for Muschamp, but it did show the farce of McElwain paying out of his pocket to be the farce we all knew it was.
I don't think McElwain deserved a raise. Winning the SEC East wasn't a great accomplishment with, like this year, how sorry the division was. At least UF finished in the top ten and beat FSU when Muschamp got his raise. UF lost to FSU, very badly, and finished 25th when Foley gave his boy McElwain a few more million.
It's mute point if we lose to SCARWatch KY beat TN and us get a 4th year of Mac because you cant fire a guy who was in the SECCG just a year ago.

I know the "story, but I'm not naive enough to believe a word of it. McElwain, I assure you, didn't pay a penny to buy out his contract. That money came from UF, and, as I stated before, it was just an "accounting" ruse to make sure Foley didn't lose face after looking like an idiot. UF was a laughing stock, if you recall, after Foley returned to Gainesville without McElwain because, as usual, he tried to be cheap and was arrogant about it to CSU. He may have been able to bargain with CSU to get a lower buyout, but he came with an superior attitude and didn't try to negotiate. He told CSU that they should be thankful, in so many words, to get anything from a powerful A.D. like himself. CSU thought he was rude, and told him to take a hike. That's what happened, and the B.S. about McElwain paying some of his buyout was just a way for Foley to not look like the jerk he's always been. The story at CSU was that his buyout was $7M. UF would pony up about $4M and Mac gave $1M per year for the 1st 3 years. CSU was only paying him $1M/yr and UF deal $3M, so even giving back $ the first 3 years he still doubled his money during those years because of a 3x pay raise at Florida. But any coach actually giving money back to pay a buyout for himself I had never heard of. If you don't believe it go look it up, that story was published everywhere. If you're going to say published accounts aren't real then come a valid link disputing it.

Furthermore, the reason Foley chose McElwain in the first place is because he thinks he's a Super Genius. If you've ever seen "The Caine Mutiny", I think you remember how Capt. Queeg was always trying to reenact his great triumph, the strawberries.... Foley's great triumph was the hire of Billy Donovan. Donovan was plucked from obscurity and was a "Super Genius" hire. He tried to replicate this crowning achievement with the hires of Zook, Muschamp, and McElwain. All three were obscure, out of the box choices that would again confirm Foley's status as a Super Genius. Them being subservient and beholden to him didn't hurt, either. You may ask : "What about Urban Meyer?" Meyer was the President's choice, not Foley's. Foley would have never picked Meyer. He wasn't obscure and certainly never answered to Foley. Meyer didn't have to pay attention to Foley, and that really irked him.
Thankfully, Foley won't be choosing the next Head Coach. I hope the new A.D. isn't as full of himself and makes a good hire this time. I don't think it will be too much longer before McElwain is fired.
