What UF needs first and foremost is a good headcoach. Yes he needs to be a good recruiter and yes good recruiting classes are the lifeblood of college football teams, but so is the ability to put together a top-notch staff, to develop players whence they arrive on campus and to provide strong disciplined leadership. Recruiting, though important, is not first and foremost. It is one of many equally important factors. Neither is it important that the next head coach be an offensive minded guru. Saban is the standard in this day and age and he rose to the top on the defensive side of the ball.
I agree with and understand most of what you say. What I disagree with is the emphasis on any single factor being more important than another. It's like saying that tires are the first and foremost component of a car. Essential? Yes. But so are the engine, brakes, steering wheel, etc. Getting a great recruiter who fails otherwise but leaves the program well-stocked for the next coach after a couple of years is not what is needed right now.
