Sad isn't it.
It really is. I remember when we were going through that nightmare stretch with Muschamp, and I felt like I owed Zook an apology because the depths Chimp had taken us to were far, far worse. Then, incredibly, Butters was so horrendous I actually felt like apologizing to Muschamp! I honestly don't think a coach could be worse than Butters. Seriously. We will never experience that kind of incompetence again. It's a miracle he ever won a single game.
He is the worst. Ever.
I cant believe how bad the last 3 coaches have been but your right, Mac will likely go down in gator history as the absolute worst coach ever. It was pure misery watching football every week and you never had the feeling like we had any game in the bag prior to playing it. I always pull for our coaches to succeed and Mac was no different. I always want us to win and win big but who knew it would be literally painful to watch a game. Foley really screwed the pooch.
As impossibly bad as all three hires were, Foley actually got progressively worse.
I think we should hire them all back as co-HBC's, a three-headed monster. We could have Chimp run the offense, Zooker would head up the defense and special teams, while Butters is clearly the recruiting coordinator. Imagine how much fun some of the people in this place would have?
Somethings that is funny, see how their records are through three years at UF (obviously Butters is cut short): Zook 23-14 Muschamp 22-16 Butters 22-12
We take it a bit more personally, having him sink OUR program to new depths. But I really struggle to think of any other D1 coach who was worse...ever.
Most of his wins, in retrospect, were practically miracles. Two of the Uk wins came down to last possession, one that was aided by 2 of the most egregious blown assignments in football history and a holding call. East Carolina was driving to beat us before fumbling. Unlikely closes against the vols, featuring TD passes in the final seconds and an "icing" that almost cost us the game in '15. A goal line stand against Lsu where the RB goes the wrong way. Hardin's last second FG to beat Vu. On and on. Outside of Iowa, OM and uga 2015, I'm not sure we played well enough to win any of those 22 games that fall in to the victory column. We just happened to not lose.
I almost want to throw up in my mouth when answering. Given the way the question is phrased and thus assuming equal playing talent I would have to go with Muschump. He won quite a few close games. When it came to game day coaching Zook was completely lost. Now if you ask which of the three was better overall I would go with Zook because he did land some pretty good talent here.
I guess I’ll take the ‘bubble screens’ over breaking chalk boards and popcorn vending.
Agreed...now where is the poll so we can vote and see the answers in one place?
Zooker’s 2 biggest problems were 1) losing to teams he should have beaten (Missy State) and 2) secondarily blowing some big leads against good teams and losing (I.e.- Miami). He won some really big games (FSU, LSU) that, as Donk pointed out, Sharkfcvvker and Champ could never win. Also, even though he seemed a little dim witted, Zook actually cared and tried to do well. Don’t get me wrong, I know we’re not in this for participation trophies so trying only counts for so much, but compared to a guy like Mac, who didn’t seem to give a damn, I’d take Zook if I had to choose.
This - Zook did have a lot of big wins... I think those Georgia wins were against highly ranked teams. I see Zook had about 5 wins against top 10 ranked teams at UF.
You left off the most embarrassing game that we shoulda lost. 3-9 fau probably scores a td in overtime if the clouds didn't miraculously open up at the end of their possesion.
Back to back weeks against top 5 in 04, if I remember correctly.
Weird, because all I thought about was how much it would cost me to hire the mob to burn down Fooley's house.
I wasn't the dumazz, I mean dumoxx that made the poll with no thread.
Look, he was a known quantity. He was the same fvkking moron who had the most talent ever collected on a college football team and lost 9-6 to Grasseater. I find it impossible to believe that guy could ever be hired and sold as a so-called offensive guru. It was a joke from the very beginning.
I didn't think the topic was worthy of a thread. Some other dumazz did.
