I couldn't agree more with Tim Worley's sentiments - even if he is a dwag. While I certainly understand what's at risk in playing, particularly if you have a shot at being a first rounder, it just seems like a cruddy thing to do your teammates and all the folks who supported you throughout your time at a university. And yes, I realize it's easy for me to say this because I was never (nor will my children ever be) in this situation, but whether the players feel it or not, they do owe something to the fans. After all, if the fans ever lose interest, that's the end of the show. To his other point, if you are going to play - play like you mean it. I was very proud of the effort the Gators put forth in the Peach Bowl. (I stared to single out some players by name, but realized it would take up too much space and I'd invariably forget somebody, but it was clear that as a team they wanted to be there and wanted to win or die trying.) It was also obvious to anyone at the game, that some of Michigan's players (and possibly their HC) did not seem to care. I can't imagine how irritated and disappointed I'd be to lay out the kind of money it costs to go to a bowl game and have the Gators not show up. (For the record, I bought six tickets, but our travel expenses were limited to a couple gallons of gas and a parking spot - others I am sure laid out a lot more.)
