Like a fly to honey.

They did have a guy. Pretty good. Might have heard of him. Name is Fields.

For all the love they get for recruiting they don’t take nearly enough heat for roster management.

A playoff QB a year away from UGA is even more impressive for Fields...Time to pay the piper soon for ol Kirby

They were plugging holes at WR last year (and yes, we did too but no one is calling our recruiting “elite”). They’ve lost some very talented players that produce elsewhere. Think they are good on defense but their offense seems to be hit or miss after they get to campus. Should be interesting on the OL next year too. They lost a ton of experience but are backfilling with talent. I don’t think Matt Luke is an equal replacement to Pittman but that’s not a firm opinion - just based on what I’ve read out there.

I speaking more about the kids leaving because of unkept promises, etc. Even good soldier Fromm declined to come back because they would not change the offense like they told him they would.

I find this very interesting. I heard the same thing about Fromm and the offense, but now I hear in the Atlanta media that Ugly is going to open it up more with this new QB. It makes me wonder what the deal is over there. They run off both Eason and Fields because they think Fromm is the best choice, but wouldn't open up the offense?

Much like Mullen says every spring that we will add tempo, UGA promises to “open it up” more. It will be the same Neanderthal offense next year that has kept them from winning a NC since 80.

Compare Bama and UGA. Bama sees a few but nothing like UGA. I lump that under “roster management”. Probably better described as personnel management but I wanted to include recruiting. UGA’s approach is way out of balance and I dont think its sustainable. At some point, the kids will catch one. The wins will decrease. A rival will pass them. Then Kirby has nothing to lean on.

Now, I’m also not one to believe they will lose 4 games next year. I’m guessing 2-3 depending on what how Auburn and UF fair. UGA still has a ton of talent and will win games that way.

That’s who they are trying to imitate so the comparison is fair. Bama just does it better. The question comes down to... does UGA’s partially successful Bama approach eclipse UF’s bargain shopping, development approach? So far, it does. I just think their model will not sustain and ours at least has a chance to.

Don’t confuse me now - I’m not guaranteeing success with our approach. I just think it has a chance while I dont think theirs does.

I’m less concerned with short term recruiting as you allude to. Look at what can happen when a guy like Brewster comes around - everything becomes more exciting and recruits take notice. The bigger issue for me is the investment they are making into things that take time to produce - facilities and a large support staff. Assuming they stop advancing their strategy in that area, we are still 3-4+ years behind but you know they won’t. We are falling behind in the long term investment side of the sport, which is of much bigger concern to me. It’s the same Foley thinking that landed us in the predicament we found ourselves in the last decade.
