With players opting out of Bowl games, is it time for an expanded playoff?

Pitts, Toney and Grimes are all opting out of the "Meaningless" Cotton Bowl...Is it time for an expanded play-off?

I know many hate the idea but I'd like:

  • 6 Power Conferences with mandatory play-offs
  • 4 at large teams play 2 wild card play-offs
  • That's 8 Play-Off Games
  • 2 Semi's
  • 1 NC
  • That's 11 meaningful Bowl Games

It's going to expand one day,, $$$ it will probably settle on 8 teams for many years. 5 Power 5 champs and 3 at large. We all know its coming It would keep a stud from opting out as they are playing for something meaningful.

As long as Mullen has Grantham, we won't have to worry about it

no, it means the playoff concept was a giant fail so instead of doubling down on what is clearly doing more harm then good, for once in this country's existence, lets do the RIGHT thing and revert back to what worked pretty well, always seemed to result in the best team being crowned, and maximized the prestige and importance of the regular season, conf title games, and the bowls.

Stop this stupid playoff and bring back the BCS. It wasnt perfect but it was FAR better than this stupid system we have now.

Expanded playoff? yes, but not b/c some of our players opted out of a meaningless bowl game. All the bowl games are meaningless outside of the Final (name the #). Are you bringing it up b/c our guys opted out? We were one of the most fortunate teams all season. How many of our guys opted out before or during the regular season? I think zero. LSU, ATM, OSU, and many others had some very good players opt out before or during the season. Expanded playoff yes, but not b/c of our situation or any other opt outs. Remember the last few years how many guys sat out bowl games?

What is that? For weeks? Basically the entire month of December?

And what about those teams Cincinnati?

I'd agree if it were a level playing field...undefeated in the SEC ain't undefeated in the Big 12.

Okay...How about...WHY play meaningless Bowl Games?

Make the Conference Playoffs and the Championship Playoffs the Major Bowls.

We could even have the FCS play the Minor Bowls.

Bowls with meaning.

They will never get rid of bowl games. Kids love the swag and perks. Plus they get to go to a new city. Sometimes.

I think non-P5 teams should play in their own division championship game, and if Notre Dame wants to play with the big boys, then they join a conference permanently.

The Networks, cities, and Conferences love the money they get from it. In the end that is what makes that decision.

Okay Donk...justify going to any Bowl Game that is not in the Playoffs?

And after that...pick your replacement for Mullen.
