Any numbers on our "Quality" Transfers?
There’s something like 6000 kids in the transfer portal. Which is insane. So many of those kids will never play for another school because they’re just not enough scholarships to make up for all the kids that have transferred.

A couple years ago (and even to some effect, last season), you could easily see which kids were going to be impactful. For sure, there were a couple that beat the norm, but in general, it was pretty easy to know who we’re going to be the impactful kids. I really don’t know in this transfer year.

I mean, Joey Sackman is one of the top guys. I don’t know anything about this kid. But his production doesn’t seem to be stellar and yet he’s ranked as one of the top DTs. But of course Jared Verse came from Albany State?

Maybe it’s just about bringing in older experienced players? To offset our youth?

I don’t know…

the metrics are necessarily compared to a bunch of other cast-offs.

we're one of the few teams losing starters.
losing a couple of the kids we did last year in the portal really hurt us. They had shown flashes. And of course they excelled at the teams they went to.

But I don’t know if losing any of the kids we have so far this year really hurt us. And that’s not the take away from the fact that, sling blade is doing a pretty piss poor job. ETN was a great, dynamic ball carrier. But he is really abysmal at pass protection. A complete liability when in the game.

On the other side of it, you have Princely. One of the best pass pressure specialists in the game. But he would give up on plays constantly, and was abysmal against the run.

He was like Cox but without the toxic locker room vibe. Interestingly enough, he did come out and say that he is open coming back to UF depending on who they hire to coach the DL. But I think we need to just move on.

The Ohio St. QB is disturbing, absent an inside explanation. He’s the starter on a perennial contender that went 11-1 this season. Is that all about NIL? Conflict with his coaches?

This crap is sucking life out of the whole sport.

I'm all about the transfer portal... to upgrade.

Right now the only upgrades are the ones upgrading away from us.

To paraphrase one of our great musical philosophers: “let’s kill all the lawyers, kill them tonight” but replace lawyers with sports agents.

No...no... no... he was thinking of the other loser Penix
Love the guys game, unfortunately for him he never finished as season at IU due to injury 4yrs. Made the move to UW, better Oline, probably better strength and conditioning and play makers. He was actually a risky take IMO, but the risk paid off.

P.S. My wife is UW grad and would kill me if she read this, lol

I agree with Doering’s assessment. I just think that there’s not nearly as many kids growing up pulling for certain schools / teams as there once was, so nowhere near the identification, pride, and allegiance. Feels like it’s more about $$ and whatever you’ve got to do to keep your name relevant and in the spotlight. We can thank the portal, NIL, and selfish people in general for the growing Wild West show we are being treated to with few exceptions.

Additionally, there is no denying from where I sit and view that Billy is not going to be successful. In fact, he is treading the same water Muschamp was at the end of his tenure. It is not a stretch at this point to believe he will be the worst of the last four hires.
This! We are old enough to remember in professional sports when most of the name players started and ended their career with the same team. Let's start the blame for lack this of allegiance to the Curt Flood decision and it's aftermath which ushered free agency at the professional level. It is actually a miracle this did not filter down to college sports for another 40+ years where all the power was in the hands of the Universities to keep or release a player from their scholarship.

Moving the conversation away from sports and just life as it has morphed we seldom see or hear of people committing to a single company for life anymore and many of the tech workers are simply gig workers with no allegiance to any firm. We live in a me first, me too, microwave society here in the USA. It's no wonder to me that lack of loyalty is now firmly a two way street and the power is in the hands of many and not the few.

Like you I believe BN is not going to be successful as he is building a perfect stagecoach while the successful ones are launching rockets. I think he would have been great addition to Charlie Pells staff here.

He would have fit perfectly with Charlie Pells staff.
