This is from ESPN and has us as one of the 5 overhyped teams currently. The others are UNC ,UK, Mich St. and TTech.

Florida's offensive challenges

During Butler's 76-62 victory over Florida on Saturday, the Bulldogs seemed to enjoy Florida's odd approach on offense. Multiple Florida possessions ended with Blackshear, a 26 percent 3-pointer shooter this season, missing deep shots from beyond the arc. You could see Butler's welcoming gaze as if the Bulldogs were collectively thinking: "They're gonna try to beat us like this? Be our guests."

Opposing teams have made just 26.5 percent of their 3-point attempts against the Bulldogs this season, a top-10 mark. But that wasn't the issue. If you watched the game, you could see that Florida's offense didn't have any rhythm or flow. In 2018-19, the Gators had a middle-of-the pack SEC offense with an assembly that couldn't hit 3-pointers. That was before adding an average 3-point shooter who did his best work at Virginia Tech as a co-star. Perhaps we thought Blackshear (Florida is averaging 0.99 points per possession with him on the floor, 0.93 when he's on the bench, per hooplens.com) alone could help Florida overcome its problems from last year.

Now do we cut ties with White midseason or fire him at the end of the season? Who do we replace him with in our full out search for a new coach? How many wins do you think we end up at? 20 or less? 20 or more? Should the team tank it to get White fired? We have seen teams do that before.

Mike White is the Zook (we'll get it figured out and keep getting better), Muschamp (hold a team to 60 and go on a rant about terrible D), and Butters (really has no idea what he's doing) of basketball coaching. Hard to believe all three are rolled into one coach.

A scandal has to break or this team quit for him to be fired midseason. I still expect them to make the tourney due to all the talent on the team. Then, we go one and done. In that scenario, he keeps his job. We'll have to miss the tourney for him to be fired and even then, I don't know. As for coaching candidates, I have no clue. I assume we would hire another mid-major coach and hope he can recruit.

With all the talent and athleticism I'm still baffled he hasn't tried pressing teams. Pressing creates some of the easiest scoring opportunities.

So I posted this article from ESPN and found it interesting about each team. And I am not writing this just b/c TTech beat U of L last nite (one game is just that in regular season), but I did watch that game b/c I know TTech lost a lot from their Final 4 team last year. But I got to thinking. Mike has been at UF one year longer than Chris Beard has been at TTech. Neither school is a basketball powerhouse, but arguably UF had at least a recent pedigree in hoops. TTech's bball pedigree is that Bob Knight coached there when on his last leg. Beard is thought of as an excellent coach and has certainly risen the rankings now in his 4th year. And I don't think that TTech is a haven for McDonald's All American bball players or other 5 star players. I have a hard time believing their recruiting classes out rank Mike's classes. I guess my point is that both Beard and Mike probably walked similar paths and Mike probably landed at what would have been thought of as a better destination, has better recruiting classes, yet looks outclassed compared to Beard when the ball is tipped off. I guess I was just bored and thought it was a decent comparison.

Very rarely do I find myself giving value to anything from ESPN, but I am in total agreement with us being on that list. I'm not a White fan. I have tried to be. Was hoping championships would come and convert me along the way, but it hasn't happened.

I know some high school and junior college coaches who have done clinics with him, and both of them said something that kinda nailed my thoughts about him: he thinks he deserves to be coaching at a better school than UF. If that is truly the case, this will be the greatest job he ever had. Too bad he doesn't seem to have the ability to squeeze more juice out of it.

Getting the players that we have, White should be ripped with positive energy. Nope, same old same old = old White. I don't know what is White's problems are, but their outward expression ends in flabbergastation on the court, in the stands, in front of the TV. All I got is ???? At this point, I feel very sorry for our players. Blackshear will have his NBA audition season ruined. The youngsters may improve at individual play, they will be training in BBall ignorance.

Even if we were 8-1 by playing this way, IMO we would all still be yearning for this Gatorgroup to be playing better. Thru 9 games versus so-so teams, Gators are stumbling along like an untalented team. My rejection of White is due to the haunting thoughts that a different coach would have this team humming along with winning attitudes and performances. We can't have one good assistant coach because White couldn't let an assistant show him up. I say fire White and hire Akeem Olajuwon or who?

His like the guy that shows up at 4:30 in the morning who makes biscuits for Hardee's. He's a hard worker and looks the part but he just makes biscuits. If you threw in a downtown NYC five star restaurants kitchen, with all ingredients and utensils to turn out a Gordon Ramsey like dish.....he'd still make biscuits. Thats all he is and all he knows. Get him out of the kitchen and back to Hardee's. We need a real chef!

That look on White's face is the look of a guy that knows he faking it and just buying as much time as he can before someone puts him out of his misery.

Mike White's Gators have had a lengthy practice window, let's see how they handle this next game.
As you watch the very start, do White's Gators move in a continuous flow through spots that threaten a drive, an easy shot or easy dish?
Look for that. Expect that. - that's the gaming of basketball. Those kids have a right to be practicing that, taught that. We are not demanding a wow W-L record. We want to watch these Gator hopefuls fulfill the good things they'd hoped for in lending their talents to the University of Florida. The good things White certainly must have promised them? Is he keeping his word? Is UF rewarding these fellows for coming? What will next year's recruits observe? Remember, TV game announcers were miffed at White for his team's lacking performance?? White's product is very much TV spotlighted and that's bad advertising. If he doesn't immediately get these guys playing sensible basketball, UF will become a victim of national ridicule. No serious Basketball School keeps that type of coach.

I'm sorry guys but we haven't played tough against any good teams yet and we are soon headed for playing some well-coached teams. Then, SEC play. Will this season be enjoyable? Will our fine recruited-class be satisfied? White needs rescuing, and that shouldn't be the case for $4 million-plus along with an extension.

A team's playing style gets established at practices. Plus these players came with much higher BBall skills than usual. All our high star recruits now perform without sensible BBIQ, with no direction to be formidable in competition. These kids were highly rated because each of them led their teams to wins. Under White's coaching, we've seen stars regress in scoring before. Well, they are doing it again. How long must we endure watching this sloppy playing style? How long will our players endure being on a mediocre sloppy playing style team going nowhere?

So, it's anybody's guess? To lead these players out of the doldrums, they need a coach that has a dynamic personality? To be a power team, these Gators need a power-driven coach. Is White in any way like that? His practices are not developing these players.

I don't like my grasping at explanations for White's feckless coaching-teaching, I just think a $4 million dollar coach should be a dynamic problem solver. It's like White does not have the "instincts" for coaching. Gators need a dynamic power-personality coach to improve & develop.

Observing White's courtside wimpy behavior long enough gives me a "sense" that he's not dynamic enough to lead these all-stars to real success.?? Players come in with high ceiling skills and become mediocre? I see other coaches robustly pacing the sideline, energetic arm gestures, shouting instructions conveying "fix that" right now. White just stands quietly, with no excitement conveyed to players. Sometimes he has a rolled-up program he places in front of his mouth. (The psyche that goes with that gesture is unsuited to drive a team.) Youngsters new to college play require dynamic forceful coaching, in practices and in games.

FWIW, Wofford just went into famed Carmichael Auditorium and beat Cryin Roy 68-64. They've won their last two trips to Chapel Hill, once in the Big Nosed Liberal Dome, the other today.
