Imagine this scenario: Grantham leaves and in a couple years the new DC still hasn’t gotten the D back to some of the statistical levels it’s at now (yds per game, scoring, or any category in which we’re pretty highly ranked). Let’s say we’ve dropped 10-15 places. I’m not predicting it’ll happen, this is a “what-if” stream of thought.
So, is our D then working through growing pains at the same time our OL has matured, EJ / AR are blossoming, running game is back, etc? Are there any Grantham fans on GCMB who will have a field day pulling the myriad anti-G posts out and saying we’d be elite if our D wasn’t holding us back? I guess in that scenario it’d be a “field month” or “field season”, not just a day. I don’t recall any ardent Grantham supporters piping up, so this whole post is probably moot and I should’ve remained mute.
Maybe it’s even mooter
️ because our overall talent level on D will be markedly better and we’d upgrade some position coaches if G leaves, so the D wouldn’t be a liability. Hopefully we’ll have developed some young LBs (‘21 or ‘22 croots?), have experienced talented DBs, and roll out some hosses up front.
