The TB Viper jersey's are HIDEOUS and they play like it too. No surprise with Aaron Murray as their QB.

So now Tampa hosts 3 horrible football teams. Yay. The Bucs and USF are entirely unwatchable. Plus I’m afraid if I go to a Bucs game that will be the day God decides to strike the franchise dead with an Old Testament barrage of lightning, a stadium collapse into a sinkhole to hell, and a rainstorm of FSU diplomas their recipients had used for toilet paper.

Have to say, I feel safer watching an incompetent DWAG than an incompetent rapist Nole. Might take the kids to a Vipers game.

I'm curious to see how USF does. Jeff Scott brought in a good staff and seems to be doing all he can to emulate Clemson - on a scaled down version obviously. Sadly for USF, if he has any sort of success he's gone within a few years.

What I saw of the Vipers game was horrid... now I'm still gonna go watch some of it live. But it looked bad.

They were pretty good under Levitt. Could happen again.

I just read this and wanted to give them a standing O. I did not watch any of this football and probably won't but when I read a team had fired a coord. after game 1 I thought there is some ProAction. Maybe it won;t work out, but gotta like the fact that a team saw a problem and decided to make the change instead of waiting. A rare occurrence these days

Watched most of the STL Dallas game. I thought it was entertaining with pretty solid defense. The Dallas QB Nelsen was bad and it seemed like every deep pass he threw was out of bounds. The announcers kept talking about how Dallas misses Landry Jones. That tells you all you need to know about QB talent in the league. Big Game Bob loses another one and good to see Will Hill beat him. Great to see crazy Hal Mumme roaming the sidelines with the towel. Great also to see Chuck Long who led a very good 85 Hawkeye team. Other than some of the characters on the sidelines the league has very few stars.

SI AllGators: How Former Gators Performed in XFL Week One

In the first weekend of the new-look XFL, some ex-Florida players showed off their skills. Matt Jones, who played running back at Florida from 2012-14, stood out the most.

Jones was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins and played there for three seasons. He proceeded to make pit stops in Indianapolis and Philadelphia, playing for the Colts and Eagles briefly before joining the St. Louis Battlehawks of the XFL.

Jones carried the ball 21 times on Sunday for 85 yards in his XFL debut, averaging just over four yards a carry. Jones' efforts helped lead the Battlehawks to victory over the Dallas Renegades, 15-9. Jones' 85 rushing yards lead the XFL through its inaugural week.

Defensively, safety Will Hill (2008-10) was the star UF alumnus. Hill recorded five tackles for the Battlehawks, and nabbed the game-winning interception from Renegades quarterback Phillip Nelson.

Beating teams coached by Bob Stoops isn't new to Hill. He was a member of the Gators' 2009 BCS National Championship team, which beat the Stoops-led Oklahoma Sooners by a score of 24-14.

After not getting drafted in 2010, Hill signed with the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League before getting picked up by the New York Giants in 2012. In 2014, the Baltimore Ravens signed Hill and kept him until 2016, when he was released for failing a drug test. He then signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL before joining the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football last season.

Former Florida safety Matt Elam also recorded a tackle this weekend for the D.C. Defenders when they beat the Seattle Dragons. Elam played for UF from 2010-2012 before getting drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round. The Ravens released the first-round pick in 2017. Elam played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL for a season before joining the Defenders this season.

Florida's most talented player in the XFL, Tampa Bay Vipers wide receiver Antonio Callaway, was placed on injured reserve before the season started.

Nothing about Cece, Ivey or Ian Silberman? Saw them all with loads of playing time. Goolsby, how’d he do?

I'm going to the DC game on Saturday. Supposed to be cold AF. We got good seats, $55 each (w/ fees). There were seats well over $100. WTF? I looked ahead to the games in March and they are even more expensive. Good for the league, I guess, but I thought this was supposed to be an 'affordable' minor league! Anyhow, looking forward to it. I'll report back how it went. Sports radio this week people have been talking about how poor the concessions were run at the stadium - not enough workers to meet the demand, long lines.

From what I saw over the weekend there's one thing the XFL better fix and they better fix it fast. They've got to get some talent at QB. Every single game I saw the QB play was horrid. The only QB I saw that should probably be starting a week or 2 from now is the Jones kid from OSU, the rest should all be back ups at best.

If I were them I'd go after bigger name guys as well and give them a shot. Guys like Manziel, Kap and of course Tampa should throw the bank at Tebow. I don't give a shyt if he's played in years or not, if Tampa were to pick him up the rest of their games would be sold out that same day. They've got to get bigger names and better QB's in the league if not I wouldn't be surprised if it folded up before season's end just like the AFL (or whatever it was called).

From the little I saw (I watched parts of 3 games) I agree with you. However, it was week 1 and they only had a few weeks of camp. So we'll see if there's some improvement. Also, the OL's seemed to struggle - which should be expected.

The two areas that the NFL struggles with is: OL and QB. I'm guessing if this league can have some success for two consecutive years the NFL will buy a stake in the league in the hopes that it can become a true developmental league. This may get the salaries up a little bit, which will encourage these tweeners to stick with it for a couple of seasons - which will improve their development and chances to make it in the NFL. OL and QB has been an issue in the NFL for years.

I said the same thing in this thread. I watched 3 games. Like you, Cardale Jones was the only NFL caliber QB. I mean that from a talent perspective. However, his mechanics made freshman Feleipe Franks look solid. My goodness. :eek3: The rest of the QBs were like Aaron Murray. They aren't in the nfl because they don't have the arms.

How does it get fixed? Even NFL career backups won't be playing in the XFL. They make too much money. So, the XFL will have to get creative. They need to sign physically talented QBs. Then, trust the coaches to teach them how to play the game. This league won't survive with trash like Aaron Murray or Brad Silvers.

Kaepernick isn't interested in playing football any more. He only uses it as a way to keep his name in the headlines. If he was serious, he wouldn't be making 20 million dollar salary demands.

Report: Colin Kaepernick Discussed Joining XFL with $20M Contract Request

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick talked with XFL executives last fall about possibly playing for the league when it reboots in 2020, according to Sporting News' Michael McCarthy.

McCarthy notes Kaepernick was seeking at least $20 million to play in the XFL. That's a steep ask, given McCarthy reported that the league is looking to pay starting quarterbacks $250,000 per season.

This development comes after Barry Wilner of the Associated Press reported earlier this month that the Alliance of American Football—which debuted Feb. 9—sought to sign the controversial QB. Per Wilner, Kaepernick was seeking $20 million-plus from that startup league as well.

Kaepernick has not played football professionally since the 2016 NFL season. He completed just 59.2 percent of his passes for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions in 12 games for San Francisco in 2016, adding 468 yards and two scores on the ground.

Laughable on its face, but even more so when you consider, isn't this guy a rabid socialist? Communist, even? Let's see...XFL QB salaries were expected to be in the $250k range, and he wanted $20 million. So if my math is correct (caution: it rarely is), this man of the people was demanding to be paid 8000% of what other workers doing the same job were making? Sounds about right.

He probably has no desire to play in the league. By asking for a ridiculous salary his 'people' can say "they wouldn't even let him play in the XFL too!" Always a victim....
