I trust Mac to give it to the guy that gives us the best chance to win. Go Gators!

Pretty much agree with everything Ox said, but I have to say his indignant and entitled tone is somewhat off-putting.

As to Appleby vs a freshman, seems to me you have to put in whoever is better. Even with mediocre QBing with the weak SEC east we have a shot at going to the SEC championship. But I will agree if Appleby doesn't do any better than we've seen I'd rather see a freshman stink it up than a transfer senior backup.

I am all in favor of Appleby. The reason he came to UF was so that UF would have Appleby and del Rio so that if whomever was starting got injured UF would NOT have to go with someone not ready to play QB like last year.

I see no reason Appleby should not be as competent as del Rio. Plus unlike del Rio he has experience playing in front of hostile crowds.

Except to say the guy has no touch on his passes. He was lousy in the spring game and was outplayed by Trask running exclusively with the 2nd team. You see how he badly missed the wide open receiver last night. Mac certainly knows it since they didn't let him throw. He's one of those big armed guys that is inaccurate. Kind of like Dobbs but can't run nearly as good.

Good synopsis and do not disagree with anything.

Throwing Trask out there in Knoxville with the hype of this game is not Mac's style. All we can hope for is he utilizes him in certain game situations and works him in. Appleby does have experience playing in big stadiums/games so he is probably the best option to start with, but hopefully Mac and Nuss find a way to get in the freshman.

We are snake bit at the QB position.

I just hope Mac gives Trask an even-up look this week before trotting Appleby out there. I'm hoping Appleby is better than he has showed, but in limited action so far all he can do is hand the ball off in the running game; his passing sux. From everything I've heard Trask is capable and throws the best ball of all 4 QBs. I know he didn't start in HS. His HS coach hunted down our coaches and basically begged them to give him a look, saying he screwed Trask and he's talented enough to be a Div I QB. That's how we got him. Trask may be the future for us. Now would be a great time to give him a shot and see how he handles it, and build for the future. If Appleby was really good I wouldn't be saying this but I just don't think he is (hope I'm wrong here). All that said, Mac will play Appleby against the vols. Mac's refusal to put somebody, anybody out there in place of the disastrous Treon last year makes me wonder if the new QB competition will be based on performance.

You are going to have to take another season of mediocre to poor quarterback play if LDR is out and Appleby is Mac's guy. I can see the TN game going like this, Mac starts Appleby based upon experience and blah blah, if we are losing in the 4th, Trask comes in a la Treon and pulls out the win. The defense will keep the game close which will make Mac hang in longer with Appleby.

Bottom line though is if LDR is out, need to go with one of the freshmen and not a transfer QB in his last year.

The QB play next week really depends on how badly LDR's knee is. If he's going to be out for the season, we need to bite the bullet and get Trask in sooner rather than later. If LDR's only out for a game or 2, I can see going with AA until LDR is back.

You were spot on with everything. Get one of the freshman in. Applebee is a nice kid to come in when you're already leading or as an emergency because your QB got hurt during the game. With a week's preparation go with one of those other kids.

He's terrible.

I share your outrage at that 24% chance of us beating the ButtChuggers. I was screaming at that, and trust me, I'm so damn sick I can barely speak.

In what universe?

I choose to look at it this way, I hope they have all of their first responders on stand-by, because (1) they feel entitled, it's their time [just like always], (2) they're not nearly as good as they think they are [just like always], and (3) although we once again have to overcome that freakin' adversity on the field [just like always]....this year we have a grip, and a an actual game plan. May we inflict such an epic emotional beat-down on them that they burn it all down! Can't think of anyone who deserves it more.
