Just read this in the G-ville Sun. Collins says he is putting in more zone packages because, in his and the players' opinions, Chump's insistence on constant man-to-man made UF's secondary easier to scheme against despite its talent. Collins looks to mix it up with the coverages. Article notes we slipped to 42nd in Pass Defense last year. The hits just keep comin'.

We gave up big third down after big third-down last year. I noticed it against Louisville as well.

Not gonna read an article on that site written by a white rapper with a bowl cut that requires me to answer survey questions.

However, it's most certainly easier to run the ball on a team that plays straight man-to-man all the time.

"Piling on" on in defense how surprising.

So teams run on our man to man, the corners and safeties start peaking in on the running back. Then get caught looking, shocking. I believe LSU found that out.

Well Gee you probably need a combination defense especially against our next opponent. When you actually show zone you can change it interactively. If you only play man it makes it simple to work against it.

After Quinn left we had a hard time getting teams off the field. See South Carolina last season.

The few times we went to zone the last few years, usually due to injuries, we were terrible. I got the impression Muschump didn't do much coaching in that area. It was man-to-man or bust.

Yes apparently most of the actual effective coaching came from Quinn, and his performance after he left sure seems like he was a good coach.

I'll admit, I was one of those people. The more I hear from this current staff as well as from players, the more I realize I was wrong.

Well, it's certainly easier to run draws on man teams (explaining part of our problems on third down-- the other being we have some very unathletic LBs the last couple of years) and it's easier to get safeties to bite on play action when the d is playing man. However, Chimp used the man to overload the box and run blitz, which made him generally pretty good on running downs. He was really a one trick pony. Not very good at anything but that.

I prefer more man coverage; especially with the studs we've had at DB.

Judging by the size of that cheeseburger in your avi, you need to get over to the Tshirt thread and order some 3-4xls.

In 2014, however, Florida played a few true freshmen at DB and had some struggles covering wideouts man-to-man.
Sorry, Crucial, but the guys getting beaten were not freshmen, Maye, Neal, and to a lesser extent (and mostly earlier in the season) Poole.

Quinn was great. But he had a load of talent in the front seven with Easley, Floyd, Hunter, Bostic, McCray and Jenkins, along with Elam at Safety that all left after the 2012 season.
