Listening to Andrew Spivey on Gator Country, he too thinks that Mac is bringing in Appleby for depth. He talked about the number of INTs he has thrown and his completion %, yet no one wants to talk about Del Rio's stats. THERE ARE NO STATS!!!

This QB competition is about two guys: one has played for a crappy team and has crappy stats and another that has been in college for three seasons and has thrown 10 passes.

I think Appleby may be the answer to our QB problem.

There's not a good qb on a team only 6 wins in 3 years imo. I listened to someone who covers purdue yesterday on the radio. She said he likes our sports management program and plans on getting coaching. She also said that he feels like he can come in and be the guy here but I don't. I think hes a clipboard holder.

Sorry...that was a misquote. I was responding to something T-Rex had said...can't remember what exactly, considering it all pretty much sounds the same. I was on my phone and somehow quoted you only... That was not directed at you...my bad.

Well, that makes more sense because it really did seem outta left field. It's cool. Go Gators.

Leak did play very well as a freshman QB. But Tebow as a freshman was, functionally, a third-down specialist fullback. I don't recall that he started any games, and he only attempted 33 passes for the year.

The power of statistics is that they help one make informed decisions based on both what's likely to happen and what's not likely to happen. The fact that there are some unusual outliers like Chris Leak that stick in the mind doesn't alter the general truth that true freshmen QBs usually play at a level that loses games.

But I would hope that when/if our offense gets to the point that we have 2 to 3 TD leads over our opponents in the 4th quarter, we'll see some of the backup QBs getting some game reps.

These will be my last words on this subject, I'm already a good half-step into redundant and boring.
Care to repeat that? :bart:

The NFL is filled with talented guys that played for losing schools. Look up the career of Jay Cutler at Vandy.

And then you have Matt Cassel, who had no stats in college but has made a career in the NFL.

Ya' know it might be a good idea to just let this guy get here and actually see what he can do.

I don't know if JC himself coming back would appease some of you!

He was 5'1 110 lbs. and couldn't grip a football anymore due to injuries sustained during crucifixion. He had ZERO killer instinct, no competitive drive, and had to have plays run into him in Aramaic. WTF is so exciting about that? I'd take Dan Werner at QB over Jesus, and I hate that guy.

Here is the highlight video for Appleby. Here's what I see:
1. When he catches his own pass (on a batted ball) , he isn't looking to throw it for a second time.
2. He stands tall in the pocket and throws a pass, even though he knows he's going to get hit.
3. Strong arm - can throw the out pattern.
4. Purdue's offense looks similar to ours.
5. He's more athletic than we think.
