Yeah, both kids have full beards. What the article doesn't mention is the 8th grader is 19 and the 9th grader is 24.

I can't grow a beard like that and I'm probably 20 years older than that kid.

Not so sure about jumping the gun offering a middle schooler. Seems desperate.
Jumping the gun? This is how the game is played today. It's obviously not a committable offer, but it shows the school's interest and puts you in the athlete's head for the long bumpy recruiting road that lies ahead.

Thread title is stupid!!

But on topic...I hope these types of offers don't go to these kid's heads.

Having talent is one thing. But having talented prima donnas w/an "I love ME" attitude is detrimental to the team.

Nobody compares Mac to Kiffin and lives to tell about it. I dont call this desperate, I say great insight. Lets get back to really scoring big at recruiting....

It seems like following individuals at this age is the coming thing and offering is a no lose activity. Gets their attention without any real commitment.

My new policy on posting prevents me commenting on Lame Kitten and those using his name on this board.

For ya'll hating on the Kiffen comparison:

Sills, 13, commits to USC - in 2015 class (now committed to WVU)

and

Lane Kiffin hands out another scholarship offer to eighth grader - in 2017 class

OK, so Lame Kitten is also doing it.

But why the need to compare Mac to Lame when there are plenty of other Coaches doing this. Why not compare Mac to them?

I'll tell you why, cause the OP believes this is a stupid move and wants to disparage Mac. By putting Lame's name to it he thinks he effectively does so.

He doesn't.
