Someone who has cash to burn or who sees it as a hobby and an investment. These cars tend to remain low mileage.
especially when wrapped around a pole

But also why a lot of these guys end up being broke after their playing career is over

This has the makings of a circular conversation.

Lamborghini’s, at least modern ones, are some of the worst “investments” I can think of.

Some years back I read where Bam Margera? (star of the show jackass) was picking up someone from the airport in his lambo and the person said it was too bad the car didn't have a sunroof so Bam pulls over and whips out a sawz all and cuts out a sunroof in the roof of the probably 250k lambo. Idiot.

You spend 400K and it's worth 250K the moment you drive it off the lot. You'd have to be brainless to buy one new when you can get a barely-used one for a huge discount. They are just garage queens that some rich dude puts about 500 miles on a year, if that.

Ox, that's not limited to Lamborghini. The Aston Martin Vanquish experiences a similar drop.

The Aventador, on the other hand, holds its value pretty good out of the gate. The Huracan not so much. Ferrari from top to bottom depreciates less. Ferrari of Tampa Bay turns big profitable deals on pre-owneds.

Buy pre-owned.

Most cars are a money pit, hence the oxymoron "depreciating asset." The only usable term is luxury. Expensive cars are a luxury.
