They've got us underdogs in 3 games (LSU & Texas A&M games aren't lined). Vegas doesn't care much for Tennessee (they have UT/Kentucky as a "pick em"):

Vegas doesn't seem to think much about a Will Grier led West Virginia as well.

Vegas is not in the business of predicting outcomes. They simply set a line that they think will get the betting public to bet on both sides evenly. If one side gets more bets than the other, then Vegas will adjust the line.

They make their money off wagering fees. They don't want to take the risk of gambling on who will win. The perfect line for Vegas results in even bets on both sides and no risk for the house.

I think this is probably the most unknown and/or misunderstood thing about vegas. And why I laugh when the vegas line comes out "favoring" your team of choice or even better, when the line moves towards better favoring them throughout the week.

People seem to subconsciously believe when this happens, that it means the "experts" think team A is going to win when in actuality its just a bunch of regular old joes placing bets thats determining the line.

Yes, it's called "book making". And the objective is to balance the books. However, when the line is set they are essentially saying who they think will win outright (that's why there's the option to play the moneyline bet). At this early stage Vegas is taking a risk by allowing wagers to be made for later season games....as they are setting the line based off of how good or bad they "think" a team will be. There could be an injury to a starting QB or multiple injuries that totally change the projections of that team. So, as it stands today, "they" (Vegas) is saying we're underdogs in at least 3 games (i.e. expected to lose). And they haven't lined the LSU, Kentucky, or Texas A&M games (I'd say they'd have us as slight favorites in all three of these...or maybe a pick'em vs. LSU).

Surprised Tenn isn't getting a little more love even after last season. That new QB looked pretty dang good in that spring game. I know its a practice game but he seemed like he was doing pretty good even against some of their decent defensive players. I wouldn't have them and KY as a pick em.
