Tough Ticket: The most expensive college football games of 2016

College football is all about the atmospheres. It’s one of the few sports remaining where attending a game is usually better than watching at home.

We’re just a few weeks from kickoff for the 2016 season. Do you buy tickets now or hope they get cheaper closer to the game?

Here are the most expensive regular season games of 2016, using the cheapest ticket currently available on StubHub:

Ohio State at Oklahoma (Sept. 17) - $350

One of the biggest non-conference games in a long time, and it’s a home game for Oklahoma. No neutral site. College football needs to get back to these big home-and-home series. A playoff team from 2015 against the 2014 national champion. Two of the most storied programs of all-time. The Buckeyes are one of the most inexperienced teams in the country. Will J.T. Barrett get help around him in a major road environment? Remember, Urban Meyer has never lost a true road game at Ohio State.

Auburn at Alabama (Nov. 26) - $250

A year ago, Auburn was a pick for the College Football Playoff, and then went 7-6. Where will the Tigers be when this game comes around?

Notre Dame at Texas (Sept. 4) - $225

A Sunday night game in Week 1. Charlie Strong said recently that Texas fans just want to see hope. It’ll be the first look at the new offense under Sterlin Gilbert. Will the Longhorns have a quarterback?

Alabama at Tennessee (Oct. 15) - $225

The Third Saturday in October, and perhaps an SEC title game preview? Last year, the Tide escaped with a 19-14 win on a late TD. Big expectations in Knoxville. We’ll see if they live up to them.

Alabama at LSU (Nov. 5) - $223

Can Les Miles break a five-game losing streak against Alabama?

Michigan at Ohio State (Nov. 26) - $219

Jim Harbaugh was humbled with a 42-13 Buckeye win in Ann Arbor a year ago. Ohio State has won 13 of 15 in this series.

Florida at Tennessee (Sept. 24) - $210

If Tennessee wants to win the East, they’ll probably have to get over the Gator hump. It’s 11 straight losses, including last year’s last-minute heartbreaker.

Michigan at Michigan State (Oct. 29) - $200

The Wolverines could enter this game 7-0. MSU has won seven of eight in this series, but Mark Dantonio will find a chip on the shoulder. Make sure you stay in your seat until the clock hits zeroes.

Oregon at Nebraska (Sept. 17) - $199

Two teams with big questions entering the season. Will this be the same high-octane Oregon offense? Can Nebraska become a consistent team under Mike Riley? Riley's experience with the Ducks from his time at Oregon State should help the game-planning.

Michigan State at Notre Dame (Sept. 17) - $180

After a two-year hiatus, this rivalry returns. Mark Dantonio is 1-3 against Brian Kelly at MSU, and that win came in 2010 on the fake field goal TD in overtime.

Oklahoma vs. Texas (Oct. 8) - $180

One of the craziest results of 2015. Charlie Strong’s Texas team won this game and missed a bowl. Oklahoma lost the game and still reached the College Football Playoff.

Alabama at Ole Miss (Sept. 17) - $175

Miami at Notre Dame (Oct. 29) - $169

Georgia vs. Florida (Oct. 29) - $160

Auburn at Georgia (Nov. 12) - $155

LSU vs. Wisconsin (Sept. 3) - $155

Clemson at Auburn (Sept. 3) - $153

Florida at Florida State (Nov. 26) - $151

If you’re wondering, the Virginia Tech-Tennessee game at Bristol Motor Speedway has a cheapest ticket of $125. It sounds like that’s going to break the college football attendance record.

StubHub doesn’t list tickets for the Cal-Hawaii game in Australia on Aug. 26, and the Georgia Tech-Boston College game in Ireland on Sept. 3 converts to about $31 US dollars. If you're traveling to another continent for a game, that'll be the most expensive game when you include travel costs.
