Guys,
Don't forget that during the 2006 NC game in Glendale, Emmitt went toe-to-toe with Eddie George... and was seen waiving a giant UF flag on the sidelines as we kicked their tail. He's a Gator... it just took a few years for the hard feelings to subside.
He never had any playmakers around him, and essentially, was the entire offense. And he still piled up yards and touchdowns at an incredible rate, despite the fact that every defense he played against stacked the line to stop him. He gave everything he had and left it all on the field. My dad took me to just about every game when I was a kid. I can recall to this day, watching Emmitt in amazement, as he he seemingly couldn't be tackled. It was equally as astonishing and electric as watching Tebow play.
The racist threats. The feelings of disrespect by SOS, for not trying harder to get him to stay for his senior season. It all took a toll. And when he left... he left disgruntled. IMO, it took him years to get past that stuff. But, past it he is. And, I have no doubt about his love for UF or his loyalty.
The UGA hat is nothing. It's to support his son. I'd do it, too. The love for your university can't come within a hundred miles of the love of your child. I'd wear an FSU jersey and a UGA hat with Tenn shoes... if it made my kid feel good. That's what being a parent is all about. And failing to mention UF in his HOF speech is a non-issue, as well. I'd be willing to bet that less than half of the inductees mention their college.
So get over it. He's one of the greatest Gators of all time. Had he had even a decent QB, and played his senior season under SOS, he'd had piled up a yardage marker that could never be touched. Remember, in all kinds of weather... we ALL stick together.
