I can't see starting a thread for every film, this is likely a low traffic thread to begin with. However, we've seen movies and have an opinion...share, or we'll make the same mistake you did.

==================

Mad Max - Fury Road

Finally watched a torrent download of this. I was told to watch it on the big (movie) screen, but made due with my big screen at home. Was told it had all the explosions and violence you'd be expecting, and it did. However, it lacked any sort of depth at all. Characters sucked - Max has flashbacks that are brought up frequently but not explained, and Charlize Theron was neither sexy nor interesting. She was kick ass, inasmuch as anyone was in the film, and while we get a glimpse into her history towards the end she is ultimately paper thin as a character but given the most screen time.

Pro - BIG SCREEN EXPLOSIONS, cool desert veh-EXPLOSIONS-icles, and a big budget for more EXPLOSIONS!

Con - crap characters, crap plot, crap crap.

Recommendation - 2/10. Don't waste your time.

Saw Mad Max Fury Road during Thanksgiving... and I was disappointed. I'm going to watch the first two again, then watch it. To see if that changes my opinion.

I liked Fury Road. It's a visual comic book ,not a character developing novel. Explosions, sure, but even when stuff wasn't exploding it was a visually impressive movie. Just the shots from inside the fortress before they ever hit the road were awesome. I did see it in the theater rather than a small screen there was more applause at the end from the crowd than Star Wars, which I thought wasn't all that great. Maybe because it was pretty much the same movie as episode IV.

Just saw The Hateful 8 - in 70mm
I thoroughly enjoyed it
Great characters, dialog and story
Ranks up there with his Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Django

BTW. - I kinda liked Fury Road but I'm biased on account of being married to Charlize in my sleep.

If seeing Hateful Eight...I'd recommend trying to see the 70mm version.

Fury Road was great. So was Hateful Eight. Worse movie I saw last year was Crimson Peak.

Trying to find the time to see the 70mm version... was it a Tampa threater you saw it in?
The AMC up off Veterans. Would have been awesome if it was Tampa Theatre. Maybe they'll get it eventually.

Not a theater on my side of the Bay that is showing it in that format. So I need to go to veterans.

The Island (2005)

I expected a modern version of Logan's Run given what I'd read of the premise/plot. It was ok. Scarlett is always nice to watch, and I like Ewan, but not a great film. Time filler, half interesting storyline that could happen in the future, but nothing too deep or exciting. I'd give it a 5-6/10

Bound to Vengance (2015)

Premise is of a girl wakes up chained in a house as part of human trafficking in the US. Several cut ins of video on her, presumably shot prior to the abduction but there is a gap between then and how she got here. Focus of the plot is her getting free and making her captor take her to other houses to free other girls. Minor plot twist in the end that is fairly predictable if you think about it. Filming is low budget, writing is low budget, acting is ok. Not a B film or an independent (poor quality), but not theater material either. I'd give it 3-4/10

Hateful Eight was good. Not my favorite from Tarantino, but maybe one of the best acted films he's made. Lots of great cinematography, as well. The 70mm version was beautiful. For my money, Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds are still tied at #1 on my Tarantino film list.

Also saw Spotlight a little while back. Fantastic flick, will contend for several Oscars.

The Revenant is up next, been excited for this one for quite some time.
