SEC Football Traditions

ALA - Believe the NC is theirs by birthright, any loss is the end of the world
LSU - Have the opportunity to win the majority of the games based on talent, win a few by crazy black magic, but never fully believe they are elite even after they win an NC.
Vandy - scare a few teams, but ultimately stay in the bottom of the east
UGA - Expect to with the SECE every year (and sometimes the SEC), but fold with 2-3 losses somewhere in the season. At least one of which they should have won.
TN - Believe they are back, only to prove they aren't back. Begin midseason by believing next year is THE year.
FLA - whinge about our misfortune with 10x the effort by which we celebrate our successes. Any upswing is viewed as a set up for the next fall.
KY - Wish they were as good as TN, but really just biding time until basketball
TAM / MIZZ / ARK / MSU - shake the dice with average rosters and hope for the best. Usually one will have a good season, the others end up average at best.

You missed a few teams.

Don Devoe was far and away the worst ever ever at UF. Mushchamp was abysmal, but Devoe is untouchable in this regard.

Haha, I totally forgot about that d-bag. The basketball program was a complete mess for a while there.

Dawgchamp is correct, the foundation had been set, by Spurrier! He led the way to winning the East. And making Florida become a place recruits want to play for.

Okay, good to see we got the angst out in this thread. As for the facts, Coach Mac came into the perfect situation if there was such a thing at UF when he arrived. The primary deficiencies were on the offensive side of the ball, not defensive. That allowed him to hand the ball off confidently to Geoff Collins and focus on what he does best, coach offense. In that context, Muschamp did "contribute."

Great points, but if it was "set" it had many cracks in the foundation.

Not just a lack of players and somewhat talent, but the culture of Champ. One that thinks yelling at folks is motivating, that coaching is not to be done during the game, etc.

Champ is a poor leader for college, he might be OK in the NFL where the players are more equal to the coaches and yelling is perhaps more appropriate.

He would get his ass kicked on national television if he treated most of the pros like that.

Yes that was the point, college players are much more dominated (if their coach is foolish) than pros. Watching the latest coaches show illustrates how actually caring about the players is very important. You as a coach get a lot out of the relationship both professionally and personally and the players are better as people and players as well.
