I wouldn't write off FSU yet. Didn't Alabama also turn the ball over four times against Florida? If you recall, in last year's fourth game of the season, FSU struggled to beat Boston College on the road in a game where they also fell behind early with a fourteen point deficit. Everyone was saying after that game that FSU's defense wasn't very good.Winston even "driskeled" in the N.C. State game. Did you see Fisher about have a fit after Winston made the only play that could give N.C. State a chance to win? No, the reports of FSU's demise have been greatly exaggerated. They haven't lost. Isn't that the criteria for being the best team?
Let's look at the other flavors of the month. What has Alabama done to merit being the best team? Win a neutral site game against West Virginia and beat a bad Florida team at home? Oregon has beat a good Michigan State team at home and struggled to beat a bad Washington State team on the road. Oklahoma has beat West Virginia by twelve on the road and beat a bad Tennessee team. Texas A&M beat a South Carolina team on the road that looks like it is overrated and went to overtime to beat a bad Arkansas team. Arkansas is still a bad team until they actually start winning games, being close doesn't count. Auburn struggled to beat Kansas State on the road and beat Arkansas. Baylor? They don't even to deserve to be in the conversation since they are too scared to play a decent out of conference team. FSU also beat Clemson without their best player. So, the answer is that FSU hasn't looked like a dominant team, but since no other team has looked dominant as well, it's a mistake to think that any team can beat them with what we have seen so far. All the "ifs" don't mean anything. We are now through the first third of the season, it's way too early to make any judgements. You don't win championships in September, only lose them.
