Not for me. I detected some sympathy in there somewhere.Really?
The argument against a Group of 5 team being in the playoffs is that they wouldn't do as well if they had run a P5 conference gauntlet from mid-October through November, rather than having all offseason to prepare for a College Kickoff game or 5 weeks to prepare for a bowl game.
edit -- UCF, BYU, Houston and Cincinnati got their first taste of being in a P5 league this year. All had a losing conference record. And only UCF at 6-6 is bowl eligible.
They are playing Oregon in the bowl game. But with playoff expansion, that is what is going to happen...mid majors will be getting in...Liberty would have been the last team in this year
For now. The initial goal was to expand the playoffs. The Power 5 will eventually force the issue and raise the criteria to get into the field. Eventually, it will take a once every 5 years or so team like those Boise State, UCF and Cincinnati teams. The rare exception, not the rule. But with playoff expansion, that is what is going to happen...mid majors will be getting in...Liberty would have been the last team in this year
UCF is now in a power 5, and I believe Boise State and Cincinnati have been contacted to join a P5.For now. The initial goal was to expand the playoffs.
