What if the person is the owner? Tipping used to be for the staff, but errbody wants in on the grift now ;)

I haven’t heard of a service charge before but it would deter me from eating there.

It is not uncommon here in Denver, anywhere from 15-18%, and as said before by someone, hurts them because I don’t tip any more than that.

I think they depend on people not realizing it, and still giving their normal tip on top of it.

We ate at a restaurant in Orlando last weekend and they did the service fee thing. It was 18% on a $100 bill. I had to pause to think about it. In the end, I put a $10 bill in with the receipt.

I’ll bet a lot of people won’t notice it until people start asking questions.

She was very honest about pointing it out. Both when she took our card and when she brought it back. That's actually why I gave her the extra 10 bucks.

I’m a creature of habit and tend to frequent the same establishments repeatedly. Tend to know the waitstaff personally and tip well as a result.

Also as a creature of habit there are restaurants where I have always ordered the exact same thing every time. Some don’t even take my order. They bring my drink and start cooking. Always a nice tip.
