Why go to the shotgun when on the 1 yd line?

I just think hiking the ball back to the 7 is going 6 yds backwards to try and go 1 yard forward...

then end up on the 3. It would seem a snap under center could get a yard. Help explain this to me.

I'm not so sure it was a shotgun issue. The OL not getting any push on 4 plays was the issue.

Serious note, it gives the ball carrier the option to bounce it outside.

Why put Driskel in, ever?

6'4" 240 compared to 5'11" 180.. in power situations it makes sense. Especially we want to limit TH injuries.

Huh? If that's the line of thinking, put in a freaking olineman to take the direct snap from the 1-yard line.

Any D coordinator will sell out to the run every time Driskel is in. Why? Because he passes as well as my 7 month old daughter. At least with Harris in, the defense would have to respect the pass, opening up the run.

Why not just let Jones take a direct snap?

However, we don't want to limit our scoring.

Driskel never makes sense.

You guys act like we haven't been running shotgun on the goal line since Tebow was here, or that dozens of other teams do the same thing. There are going to be times when you can't punch it in the end zone, it happens. No need to throw a hissy fit over it.

To answer your question. Unless repped enough a pure shotgun team is not wise to take under center snaps. It's really a high fumble scenario for a shotgun QB /C exchange. If you notice even the victory formation will be in shotgun.

I was just happy they didn't send 177lbs Powell right up the middle.

How many goal line stands have we gotten stuffed on this year? Has Roper ever heard of "the bootleg"? TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE play calling down there...

Agree 100 percent. The other question is why not Joyer.

Good teams with good coaches find a way to get it done more times than not. You have to admit our play calling could be a little better down there.

I believe it was Meyer who at one time wasn't afraid to bring in DTs to help create a "heavy" set. We have Joyer warming the pine and could have this as an option in the event we need it for either a 3rd and one or a goal line situation.

I think that would have been a better play, put Jones or Taylor in the wildcat like we did the previous week. I guess they are assuming the threat of Driskel passing would make the defense second guess.

Put an O-linemen who isn't used to taking a snap?
