Have you ever heard of professional retirement? Take a new high paying job based on past performance and then just cruise until they figure it out.

LSU has found their Dan Mullin.

But to be fair, Brian Kelly has numbers from his past that could be used to fool the uninitiated. All time wins leader at ND, whether you buy it or not, are factual numbers. Cousin Eddie did not even have any #'s that could fool the uninitiated, sans the UF braintrust in AD's Fooley and Fooley 2.0. Kelly is good at this game, but can't hold a candle to Cousin Eddie.

Now here is what is really sad...Brian Kelly has a $9.8 MIL 10 year contract.

Great facilities, great talent, awesome fan support...gets you 9+ years and a $10 MIL bill for Mullen on steroids...no thanks.

I said the same thing as Finebaum. As they were lining up for the XP, I was wondering, why not go for two? You just drove 99 yds in a little over a minute and totally have them on their heels.

I agree with the consensus that both these teams aren’t very good. I do think it helped the clowns to have already played a game. If I were running one of these neutral site kickoff “classics” I’d put it in the contract that it had to be each team’s first game of the season.

Yep. Thought the same thing and texted something very similar to some friends(though technically after the fact). Especially with the additional time that he had because of the challenge. It was an ugly night all around, so not much was going to change that. But if you go for it and don’t get it, you can argue that you had no interest in going to OT in a meaningless OOC game and challenged your team to step up. It would’ve been failure but with a measure of pride and respect to it. As it is, it’s just failure at one of the most basic plays in football.

Something else that isn’t being discussed is Norvell and his risky decision to go for the block there. Very low percentage of success(even after the earlier play), and shows that he had no thought of Kelly even contemplating ending it in regulation. Not playing for the potential fake would’ve been an equally baffling decision if the tigers had done it and won. Just monkeys across the board.

Somebody should have told that moron that you don’t blow your cover in game 1. Even Dopey Dan kept up the facade longer than that.

LSU had a losing record last year, fired their coach, yet came within one point of winning a game against a team with four straight losing seasons. This was despite having an extra point blocked, a field goal blocked, and two muffed punts resulting in turnovers that should have both yielded touchdowns. The only takeaway from this is that both teams are not just awful, but historically bad by any measure.
From a spots page somewhere...
