Probably already mentioned in this thread, but I learned something new last night. Jedd Fisch is a UF grad & served as a GA under Spurrier.

3 years at Arizona:
1-11
5-7
9-3

Hmmmmmm.
I don’t get all the love for this guy. He’s had one winning season. How was his turnaround any different than what Napier did?

Obviously I'll get attacked by the mob, but the team will be better next season - a lot of young recruits will make an impact. No one wants to hear it because they want Billy gone, but to completely dismiss the idea that this team can win 7 or 8 games next season is a mistake, no matter what the schedule is.

Napier isn't getting fire next year. Settle in.

Stricklin sure as HELL isn't getting fired, so put that idea out of your head no matter what happens to Billy.
3 wins....maybe.

Billy Taggart has been a playcaller for 4 P5 seasons and is 0-4 on winning seasons. Nothing has changed except losing several.of his best players.

I'm really not sure what happened to Ox. I guess he is just all in on being the new Vandy.

I have reservations as well, but they won 3, 7, 5, 4, 0 games in the 5 previous seasons before his arrival. We won 9, 5, 10, 11, 8(10+) and 6 games before Napier took over. His was an actual ground up rebuild and he’s improved every year. But mainly it’s the UF/Spurrier connection and the offensive mindset that gets people’s attention.

I Hate them all, but Ohio State really went from Jim Tressel, Urban Meyer, to Ryan Day... obviously the interm for one year with Luke Fickell who also wasn't a bad coach either.

And Cooper before that, no? Didn’t win it all but was a solid coach.

I think the idea of waiting another year to make a 2-for with Mr Mundee, combined with 7mil off the top, and the theoretical that this somehow all becomes moot and we take major strides, is enough for them to wait. So money is a factor to some degree.
Sunbelt boy and Mr Mundee are playing the role of George.
Gator nation is in the role as Mr Thomasalo . Grab your boys Sofla and tell em it's time to leave an upper decker in Billy boys private john

His turn around wasn't in the sunbelt for starters. But his offense is already proven to be really good at the p5 level. Still some risk. Definitely wanna see another good year.

I feel like it’s another reach. I think there’s a lot more better candidates.

Hey if we can land a more established , proven guy then I think that'd be great. Idk what the market is gonna be like. Just looking at who we've hired in the past and other programs have hired. Couple that with Billy's massive buyout, I just don't see us being capable of going real big here.
Not being a dick, I promise. Who do you think we should be targeting. This is why I started this thread m what ball park should we be in?

T, his buyout isn't that massive.... that's the thing... the administration is pushing out that it's this hugely massive buyout they cannot afford, but even they know it's a drop in the bucket.

We make enough in the ESPN contract annually to pay off his buy out this year.... money is only an issue if you allow it to be one.
Pretty sure that's all collateralized against facilities, stadium upgrades.... it ain't cash.

No one wants to talk about the better candidates. I won't say one of the names because I'm sure that comes with the ban hammer. But I'm sure that person has the same exact amount of financial support, facilities, recruiting ground, etc. that UF can provide and they still haven't won anything. Sure, what they've done at their school is literally historic, but that school is on UF's level in every way, or that's what pointing out recruiting rankings implies.

Let's just see what happens because is won't Kill us to see where next year is. With how slow we move, anyone thinking now would be a good idea is forgetting how close ESD is. By the time we fired/hired, we'd miss it and a lot of guys. Worth at least seeing if we lose to FSU and Miami in back to back home games. That would be fireable in my book.

He would definitely not be at the top of my list today. But as I said, given another year, that could change. And it looks like we are going to be a year out anyway, so who knows.

There’s no doubt in my mind Billy wins enough next season to get another year. It’s 2025 at the earliest, 2026 is more likely. 2027 isn’t out of the question.
3 wins enough to keep Sling around? Maybe. But hopefully not. He's so far in over his head we may be lucky to even field a team next year. Right now we have no OL or DL. Have the Mighty Gators ever forfeited a game? I hate to say it but I think he's so bad that may be a reality.

I’m not really sure who we should target. But the question is, is the UAA gonna put their money where their mouth is? Will they pay money to go out and get an experienced, successful, existing P5 Coach from another program?

I would say, go out and get a damn good Xs and Os Coach. I think Billy Napier would’ve been a really good hire 15 years ago. Hell – maybe even five years ago. NIL has changed everything in the last 2 years.

Get people that can coach and have a spectacular NIL program.

There’s a reason why Crystal Ballz in Miami is struggling so much. He is like another Napier. But a tad bit worse. Miami thought that they would just bring a great recruiter and it would solve all their ills. What they’re finding out is that kids are deciding where to go on NIL. And even if you somehow close on a kid without using NIL, eventually NIL will swing them right before signing day or later in the portal.

Kalen DeBoer out of Washington has to be on the list. He's succeeded everywhere he's gone, most recently turning a 4-8 team into an 11-2 team in year 1 and a 13-0 playoff team in year 2 at Washington. That's a proven track record of success.

He had the 5th best passing offense in the country in 2020 and 9th best in 2021, both at Fresno State, and he's had the #1 passing offense in the country each of the last two years at Washington. Florida needs a guy with an effective passing attack, and he brings it.

The only knock is that he's not an ace recruiter, but that matters less when you can build from the portal. If we need someone who's going to win big and win now to get the fans and alumni back on board and open up the flow of booster funds for NIL, he's the guy.

Florida's a clear upgrade over Washington in terms of resources and recruiting footprint, and Washington doesn't have Phil Knight fighting back against having someone poach their HC the way Oregon would. I think it's completely doable to pull him over here.
Not to mention he’s about to be honored in NY City for his impressive Penix.
