Rumors on Will Grier

I don't think it should be surprising if Grier isn't attending practices at this time. It wouldn't make sense to give him practice reps during the season when he can't help us out on the field. With such a limited amount of practice time allotted each day, those reps should logically go to players that may see action this season. Now spring practice, and possibly bowl game practice, are a different story where Grier should be practicing and preparing with the team.

I've heard this rationale repetitively and it makes zero sense to me. His situation from a purely playing standpoint (which is precisely the rationale here) is no different than a kid using a redshirt. Do all redshirts not attend or participate in practice b/c they cant help us on the field that season? If so, I'll willingly recant but I'm pretty sure they do. Also, there are guys that arent redshirting and are practicing but will never see the field and everyone including them know it. So, purely from a practice standpoint, again, why would you not want a better QB on the scout team to continue to stress and improve the defense week in and week out? Lord knows treon aint doing it.

There is clearly some reason he is not practicing or attending team stuff, but i dont believe it begins and ends with simply not being able to translate practice reps to the football field this season. Most likely Mac wanted to make sure there arent any distractions to the team and constant negative media attention surrounding them b/c of griers presence. He may also be protecting the kid a bit, he was clearly embarrassed and humbled by the ordeal, the decision to have him lay low for a while may be part of it.

I hope you aren't including me in that group. I'd like for Grier to stay, however, ahould he be interested in transferring, which it now appears he may not be, then I would prefer the process be expedited so as to create less confusion in this years recruiting process.

I hope he stays, and gets a chance to play next season with us.

I wish I could name the names but I can assure you I have read it. Trex is one for sure and there are others. They know who they are. I dont really care one way or another, I was simply replying to law saying nobody was calling for him to leave.

There have only been two or three posters saying Grier needs to go that I've noticed. Everyone else seems pretty much in the camp that says he's an idiot for what he did but we really wish he was already back now because at this point it's obvious we have crap for offense without him. Next year is a different story, depending on who we pick up in the off season and how the QBs do in the spring.

Why would he need a fresh start? My God, people will be drooling waiting for him to come back. He knows the system, he knows the players. I'm pissed that he took something from GNC without getting it checked out but I'm hardly going to pillory him for it. In fact, I think the whole rule is f**ked and he got screwed by an NCAA that is totally out of whack.

If he were to leave I would look directly at his dad as the reason. But I don't think he'll go because it would mean he's an absolute fool and I don't believe he is.

I think you're misunderstanding the "Fresh Start" theory. It's not that anyone is saying we think he should go to get a fresh start, we're saying, or at least I'm saying, it's such a bizarre situation here that it wouldn't be surprising if he wanted to go somewhere where he didn't have history to get a fresh start. I'm hoping like hell he wants to stay and see what happens when he is eligible again, but I could completely understand if he felt the best path for him was a fresh start.

And you really lost me with how he would be "an absolute fool" to leave. I'm pretty sure his goals are to bag skanks and to play college ball as a means to play in the NFL. There is nothing particularly special that only UF can offer him to obtain those objectives. There are coeds and cougars everywhere, and the NFL doesn't give 2 sh*ts where you played in college as long as you can play.

Hopefully you're being sarcastic with your comment. That wouldn't do Grier or the Gators any good. He'd spend more time learning the opposing team's offense so as to simulate them in practice while getting the crap pounded out of him by our 1st team defense during live scrimmages. I don't really see the benefit to either side.
