I thought I had seen in the past where redshirted players played in bowl games. Maybe I didn't. Or if I did maybe they were New Year's Day bowl games. I don't know.

He can't play..

He is in a sit out year that the NCAA upheld in an appeal for it to be waived...not a redshirt year.

I knew he had to sit out due to a transfer rule but I didn't know if the "unplayable year" was the same as red shirts.

The players and recruits are recruiting Haskins pretty hard. They just hired Arkansas state's oc. There may be an outside shot with him.

Everybody should listen to Mac's presser today for his answer when asked about Del Rio having good practices in the preseason. Mac is excited about Del Rio and what he brings to the table, of that there is no doubt....maybe the QB situation is not as bleak as we think without Grier.

Sure redshirts can play in the bowl game, but it burns their redshirt

Redshirt has nothing to do with Delrio though.

You guys are funny. Can Trask play? Can Delrio play? Can Kintucky's Driskell play?

OK sorry Im skimming backwards. No Delrio cant play. He has to sit out an academic year and the bowl game is part of the academic year, despite 2016 being on the calendar.

McElroy and AJ McCarron weren't world beaters with cannon arms, but solid starting QBs. That might be the type of player Del Rio turns out to be.

Am I the only one that wants to vomit at the thought of a serviceable, game manager, type QB being our best option for next year? I don't want a game manager anymore....I want a baller!

I'd like one too, but at this point it doesn't look like we will have one.

What seems to be lost on all the posters who keep reminding everyone that Mac won big with game manager types like McElroy and McCarron was at that point in time bama was absolutely rolling on all sides of the ball and had talent and depth at all positions at ridiculous levels. A game manager is just fine when you are steamrolling defenses at the LOS and your backs are pounding people, then your defense comes in and is deadly. We don't have that ability at the O-line. At best, next year we simply wont be embarrassing. The truth is Grier helped a lot b/c of some of the dynamic abilities he had that masked offensive weaknesses. It's doubtful that a game manager can do that.

Regardless, the offense wont be as bad as it was the last few games this year so we can all at least take solace in that.

Here is my preference for our QB going forward.
1. I want a QB taller than 6'. They need to see over the LOS and see the entire field.
2. I want a Pro style QB that can run if they have to and sometimes throw it away.
3. I want a QB that understands the system and we are not expanding the playbook as the season goes along.
4. I want a QB that can read a Defense and check out of a play.
5.. I want a QB that loves to compete and hates to lose. They need that winning sprit and ability to motivate the team around him.

Bonus wants
1. I want a QB that doesn't wear number 12. The last great Gator QB and only if my memory serves me right to wear 12 is Kerwin Bell.
2. I want a QB that is a son of a preacher. The last three starting QBs for Florida that were preacher son's brought us titles, Heismans, and statues outside the stadium.

Three Freshman QB's in the same class, at least 2 of them top 10 alpha types, is a recipe for disgruntled players and ultimately multiple transfers. I'd prefer to stick with Del Rio as likely starter then let Trask and Franks battle it out in the Spring, with one backup and one RS for 2016. Then in 2017 enter Allen, Del Rio still has a year of eligibility, Franks and Trask have a year and a half in the system. Even w/o getting Haskin's or a transfer it's going to be crowded for QB's by 2017-2018 so adding more just assures some of them leave early with the possibility of a split locker room.

Taking 3 guys may result in a transfer or two but I still think you take as many top QB's as you can. You never know who is going to pan out, regardless of stars. More good options the better.

A game manager QB only works when you have all the other positions taken care of the highest level. We don't.

I think we are going to have a surprising running game next year.

I honestly don't think Mac likes a gunslinger at QB.

Del rio is working on his 3rd transfer and there's been some conflicting reports about how good he is. Franks is a guy we all really like but he's pretty raw and doesn't appear to be ready. Haskins is a would be good enough to compete day one and our recruits seem to love the guy. We need more guys to compete for the job. Numbers work in your favor. Who cares who transfers if we get the right guy. Fsu has been signing 1 or 2 top qb's every year and as a result they have their pick at wr. I don't think we're gonna get Haskins anyhow buy I would imagine that mac would take him and it would be a smart move.
