Miami didn't decide that. They got caught cheating and paid for it. Their program hasn't been the same since, much to the dismay of gangster hood rat wannabes everywhere.

Actually, Shalala is the reason and we are now close to being the Harvard of the South. We paid very little for cheating as we caught the NCAA cheating and underhanded practice in their attempt to get more dirt on us which actually wasn't there. It seems as if we have to be bad to be good. We have a lot of choir boys on our team and now if we were to get a couple of thugs, Coach Richt would probably convert them. Oh well, it is what it is.

Well that's just it. The administration no longer wanted The University of Miami to be associated with the thug image of the football program. Shalala et.al. made a conscious decision to clean up the program. Additionally, being a small private University they don't have the resources to compete with the big boys. The alumni of UM don't tend to be big money football boosters. They will always get talent because of their location and they may win a few conference titles because it is after all the ACC but I'm willing to place a small wager that UM football is dead for good.

threatmatrix, I probably would have agreed with you up until they hired Richt and the amount of money their paid him and his assistants and are now going to fork over money for an indoor facility because Richt wants one. I don't know too much about our new president, but at least he is not blocking anything football related, but our AD is weak. Miami has more money than they would like for us to believe, but granted most goes toward the school of medicine and law school. I don't think we will ever attain the status of the 80's and early 90's, but I do feel we will be in the respectible "win" range.

IDK, they're routinely in the top 50 academic colleges, but usually behind UF; so we Gators know what school would be the Havard of the south if it came down to it.

UFGATOR and ALAGATOR, You both came across a bit arrogant but I LOL...Obviously this will be a shock to you both, but our academics are just about as high as UF. Check it out. Shalala did bring our academics up quite a bit. It is that school to the west that is not within our academic status.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot....

We love you Cane, but that is a laugh. Harvard of South Florida maybe? But I think that is debatable. Miami Dade CC cranks out some scholars also.

So rather than "Harvard of the South", what you meant to say is that Miami is: UF-south, or UF-light. Got it!

I've heard it said that Duke is the Harvard of the South (or) Vandy is the Princeton of the South, etc, etc. But I've NEVER heard of "Miami", whose closest measuring stick is being almost as good as Florida, as being "Harvard of the South."

* BTW, just busting balls...It's good to have a rival poster on here who doesn't act like an ass.

Geez, I didn't mean to create a malstorm with my comment of "Harvard of the South"......figure of speech, but I am proud that we have brought up our academic level. Most of our fans do not care a thing about the University - only football. Those of us who actually attended the U, care about both.
