THIS is why you always recruit 6 to 7 offensive linemen every class. That's between 24 to 28 OL. One third will transfer, get hurt, or never pan out. That puts you at 16-20 OL. That's 2 deep at all 5 positions with one line of redshirts when signing 6 a class.
6 to 7 OL every year? Let's not overreact. We don't need 6 to 7 OL per class.
Let's look at how some prominent programs have recruited OL over the last 6 years...
Even with FSU's sporadic fat fetish, none of these schools is averaging over 4.7 per class. The main thing is consistency - not having consecutive years where you fail to get at least 3 or 4. I'd be delighted if we got 4 or 5 every year, but you could make a strong case for 3 or 4 per year being enough.
These numbers further prove the point that we have been trying to right the ship (regarding numbers) in the last 4 classes with 5, 6, 6, 3 OL recruits (avg 5).
