Dude knows he's in over his head...plus he can't recruit the State of Florida. He's getting killed in his own backyard by damn near everyone!
This is it in a nutshell....If you're more comfortable in another territory because you have ties there and you just feel more comfortable you'll probably do a better job and live a lot happier. Mac's not exactly young either so he may want to start looking for a place to end his career coaching. There are easier jobs than UF that still pay a couple mil a year. Hell even SOS had to walk away from the pressure here.

So serious question, who would replace him? I must admit, at this point I'm off the Mac Train, so I would be excited for a new coaching search.
I'm trying not to get that far in my head. Trying to use all my,brain power into wishing for mac to get the Oregon job first.

Wow if true. UF would look pretty bad if that happens.
really depends on how it is spun. Some would claim that we just have to high an expectation for wanting a functional offense and others would claim he quit on the team and is scum. The bigger question is who is already on Sticklins short list and does he pull a foley panic hire that is worse than the last two.

Mac wasn't an established winner and still isn't . He's recruiting worse than his transition year. How would this set us back?

Perception. Unless we could grab a proven winner like Dabo (not a huge fan, but you know what to expect) or Petersen (probably not going to leave the west coast), getting another up and coming coach or a coordinator may not be the answer, and that's likely what would happen. That being said, I am sick of futility at the helm.

I think Strickland knows the dynamic well. He seems to be a sharp guy, he knows that a big hire would basically cement his job status and make him beloved by the fan base and boosters. Having that opportunity only a few months into the job and hitting a HR would basically guarantee him for life.

How would UF look bad?

This would be a miracle/blessing for our program.
Nationally it would be an embarrassment for the school if the reason a winning coach leaves is because of fans like the blurb says.

First, it would put UF into the stone age if he left. Anyone who says different most likely ate paint chips as a child.

Second, I highly doubt that he uprooted his family to move to Gainesville to he run out of town by a mob of bent fans after FSU. We could have the patriots coaching staff running the show and it wouldn't make up for the fact that our players were out physicaled saturday based on talent.
Butters taking us into the Sunbelt not Stone Age.

Where's that Kermit the frog gif that ox uses?
I just seen he may get some interest from Oregon onTOS. I'm not gonna get my hopes up but this would definitely be the break we needed.

Oregon??? :bwahaha:
Phil Knight and Oregon aren't hiring Mac!!! :lmao2: Must be a story planted by Mac's agent.

There would be some candy ass sports writers that have never played a down of football in their life moaning about the fans but I doubt coaches out there would see this for much more than it is. A guy who couldn't hack it against the big boys and left rather than man up.

Just seen Beau Baldwin may be a candidate for several jobs. Who? The coach for Eastern Washington. Welcome home Mac?

The only assumption would be that he got out of the Gator job due to his inability to beat good teams. We can all hope, but Mac gets one more year here.

:bananadance:

Its not the time for a panic hire. No one was buying the bullshyt Butters is peddling anyway. The recruiting class is shyt and even the handful of decent commits are all waivering publicly. The longer Butters stays, the worse it gets. Id be happy to have Sidehat or someone else serve as an interim for a year even while we find a homerrun hire.

Wolken lists McElwain’s name fifth behind Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck, Boise State’s Bryan Harsin, Penn State’s James Franklin (who is about to be extended by the Nittany Lions after rebuilding the program and unlikely to leave) and North Carolina’s Larry Fedora.

He's 5th on their list. Nobody hold your breath.

Would be pretty unprecedented for a coach to leave a major program to go back to a less than major or minor program. But if this report is true, he should work on having thicker skin next time. Hell, the man worked for Nick Saban, he should have iguana skin by now.
