i don't really remember anyone other than self loving gator "insiders" or know it alls jerking the Kirk hire. Those types talked the rest of us into believing it.

The love for bell is coming from all over. Going straight to the deep end doesn't help anyone. Let's just see what happens. If this offense doesn't get fixed it won't make a damn difference who he hires
The love for Mac came from all over too. You remember all the puff pieces about how dangerous UF's offense was going to be? I'm still waiting on that delivery.

In all seriousness, what do you know about Davis that led u to this conclusion? If there's anything about how he coaches, what kind of guy he is, or what his players think of him, I'd really like to have more info.

Do we even yet know how much we're paying Bell and Davis?

How does the mantra of UF being cheap persist when we've seen UF was #7-#9 in spending on our assistant coaches last year? Again, in all seriousness, can anybody corroborate the allegation that we've been losing potential coaches over money?

Love all the good info and varying perspectives here at GC. However, there's no value in strongly held beliefs being expressed as facts but not supported by personal knowledge or a reliable source of actual information.

I'd rather read real info or analysis of an issue, but I respect that reasonable people may disagree.

You don't have to.be a rocket scientist to.see that Davis hire as a joke. Two stops non that are power 5. Never recruited this area and was responsible for 6 Ol stats ranking in the 100s.

You can try and spin that all you want but those are hard facts.

Yeah it's a real head scratcher. Is he a good developer and coach? Idk but it doesn't really look like it. If our Oline regresses losing Summers wasn't even worth it. If he is only an interior oline coach and we hire another good one then I'll be ok with it. But right now hiring Davis just looks dumb

All that really matters at this point is how well they recruit. Face it...Mac won't be here past 2019, so leaving the cupboard stocked for the next guy should be our biggest concern.

I'm not familiar with either of these guys and Bell may be a decent hire, I really don't know, but seeing a couple of guys that were most recently at FAU (USF for a month) and North Texas really doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me that these are good hires for us. Especially frustrating coming off of a decent NSD. If this was the quality of hire (on O-Line) we would end up with, why wait so long to fill the open slot and be short staffed on the trail leading up to signing day. Guess the answer is the obvious choice...Mac struck out with his 1st-5th choices.

This.

Hoping and praying that he has an ace up his sleeve with a Cristobal type.

SEC Country Story

“We are excited to have Brad join our staff,” McElwain said. “Brad has strong relationships in our recruiting areas and has won championships as a player.”

Is Mac telling us Davis' main qualification is having won a championship as a player? Or, is he telling us he was impressed with North Texas' offensive line, a team we managed to shut out?

I mean that's all great but if he doesn't meet the below criteria, then I don't want him.

1) Is he a champion of life?

2) Does he have 5 star heart?

Anything else is fluff.

Hoping and praying what exactly? That one of our current coaches dies? We are full dude. This is what we got.

His primary quality is clear, at N Texas he was making slightly less than a decent plumber.

Nord will be support staff and SEC is expanding to 10 coaches. We aren't done.

I hope.

So he's definitely a joke bc he started his coaching career at small schools. His tiny a$$ school got blown out by a far bigger D1 program in a game where his team obviously serves as a sacrificial lamb in exchange for the money. The guy is 36 and working his way up, but SOOO many people here know enough about him and his coaching to immediately dub him a joke? Seriously? WTF do you know about the guy? Not a damn thing. You might review that Twain quote about opening your mouth.

Mac is really good at accomplishing something impressive that gives you hope for the future and then following that with something really disappointing to destroy whatever hope you gained.

We shouldn't be hiring guys from N. Texas. That's for schools like Kentucky, Mizzou, Arky etc. Then, once they prove their worth against the big boys, we hire them away.

Honest question-- when is the last time Bama, Michigan, FSU, LSU etc hired a position coach from a non Power 5 school? It's an honest question, cuz I really can't remember. Maybe I'm wrong, free to admit that.

Florida is not the place for coaches working their way up.

Maybe Davis will shock us all (rooting he does), but this move does not inspire confidence. Especially after the delay in the hire and the hype we were fed (via recruits passing on what Mac told them).

  • Two Big 12 championships
  • 2000 national championship

  • 2002 Oklahoma most valuable offensive lineman

  • Run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Doane College in 2005 - 2006
  • Texas A&M defensive lineman graduate assistant 2007
  • North Carolina offensive line graduate assistant 2008
  • Portland State run game coordinator and offensive line coach 2009 - 2013
  • Under Davis the Vikings had 10 offensive linemen earn All-Big Sky honors while ranking among the nation’s leaders in fewest sacks allowed
  • In his last 2 years at Portland State the line only gave up a combined 19 sacks
  • Sacks allowed improved drastically under Davis - national rank sacks allowed:2009 95th, 2010 59th, 2011 8th, 2012 5th, 2013 NA
  • Rushing offense improved drastically under Davis - national rank rushing yards: 2009 94th, 2010 18th, 2011 8th, 2012 16th, 2013 3rd
  • Co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at James Madison 2014
  • In 2014 James Madison ranked 10th nationally in total offense with 484.6 total yards per game, ranked 21st nationally in rushing offense with 215.5 yards per game and ranked 17th nationally in scoring offense with 35.7 points per game
  • Offensive line coach East Carolina 2015
  • Offensive line coach North Texas 2016
  • Both North Texas and East Carolina played at the Swamp while Davis was a coach for them

I can understand thinking that Davis doesn't have enough experience at an SEC type school. I can understand thinking that this is not a splashy hire. However, there is nothing in that resume that points to him not being a good coach. He appears to be a rising star.

Southern University Lab School. Why didn't you just say that from the beginning?

Doane is a huge NAIA school. Yuge.

I'm sure the position you held a couple of years out of college (college?) was much more impressive.

Seriously, you can complain about anything. He probably missed a question on a test in the 6th grade too.
