Sorry Navet, but incorrect on pot's "organic" effect on the brain. And incorrect on my knowledge about the true effect of cannabis use on the structure & function of the brain. What's published for the general public is contaminated thinking, political thinking. {There are people who smoked tobacco their entire lives & never got cancer = are they the ones to be featured as spokespersons & the offered proof of the safety of tobacco?} There are a few solid scientists who are totally false when they say pot is safe to smoke routinely. If you smoke pot routinely, your brain will have the dead-spots like Alzheimer's patients. At a too early age you will become very forgetful. Example = very consistently you won't remember where you put your keys. This involves function failure probably of 2 neuronal path areas:
1) not placing your keys in your usual placement (a closed focus neuron highway of a functional action)
2) failure of short term memory neurons by getting too little oxygen to transmit the memory of where you did actually put your keys this time.)
Obvious evidence stares users right in the face = pot changes how you feel = that means it changes how areas of your brain functions. That change shows in functional SPECTS, fMRIs of the "potted" brain. SPECTS show pot's effect is to excessively increase the blood supply to the same pleasure neuron terminals as cocaine & heroine. In the long run -say 12 years of one/day use - that hogging of blood supply (to support increased neuron & synapse chemicals use) causes ischemia (oxygen deprivation) required to maintain neighboring other-purpose neurons and they die. On nuclear mapped brain scans these dead areas appear as an obvious "black hole" in the "photo" of the brain's organic structure. It's not really an organic hole, it's just a bankrupt & closed down "processing factory" where
no blood vessels are open, where no oxygen is flowing = dead and thus physiologically resorbed protein "piping". That valuable tissue is gone. Patients who are treated to abstain from pot for many follow-up years, may regenerate that area, (that area does your work in the learning process, in memory, in physical reflexes.)
Since this is exactly what shows up in all Alzheimer's brains (exactly in those spots locations of pot smokers), scientists have started controlled studies on pot smokers to see if a higher % get Alzheimer's and if pot smokers get Alzheimer's at a younger age? These are the people on the trail of the health-truth about smoking pot.
Anyway, I've studied brain function (essentially brain dysfunction) because my SPECTs show huge organic dents from a surprise hit from behind with a hard swung object. I was out for 3 hours. SPECT pictures of my brain show on the left a half an orange size loss of temporal lobe brain matter, with a rebound dent on the right temporal. I lost my working memory completely for years, very little has returned. Even today when I go to the sink to fill my water bottle up, I stand there stalled not remembering which handle is the hot or cold. I make a guess and mistakingly turn on the hot on many occasions, going on trial & error each time. Certain circuits were destroyed irretrievably, some were not.
