OSU calls UM the SON, the "school up north". That's old school Woody-Bo stuff.
I've heard Spurrier many, many times. I never heard Spurrier use SOW while he was the HBC here. Never.
I have a distinct memory of Meyer starting it, and I remember thinking it didn't make much sense since FSU is not west, it's northwest. Still, I liked calling them the SOW. Seems even more disrespectful than SON. It annoyed them.
Spurrier called them the Semis. They are the Seminoles but call themselves the Noles. He figured if they were too lazy to use the whole name, he'd use the first half. For some unknown reason, they retaliated by calling us the Gates (which is silly).
Anyway, I could be wrong, but my memory lines up with Law Swonkey.

SOS coined sow in the '90-'92 range. He just didn't say it much after that. He had free shoes and other great material to work with.
