Offensive line, defensive line and cornerback are the remaining needs for UF. How will Florida fill out the rest of its 2018 class on the defensive side of the ball? Here are SEC Country’s latest projections:
* — indicates current commitment
DL: Andrew Chatfield, Malcolm Lamar, Nesta Silvera, Taylor Upshaw
Analysis: The Gators got Upshaw on board on June 10 after offering him the previous month. Chatfield de-committed from Ohio State last week following his two-day trip to Florida for Friday Night Lights, putting UF in the driver’s seat. Flips will be required for the Gators to land Lamar (Oregon commit) and Silvera (Miami commit), but both visited Gainesville in the spring and continue to communicate with Florida defensive line coach Chris Rumph.
Confidence level: 60 percent
LB: David Reese
Analysis: The Gators needed just one linebacker in this class after signing four in the previous cycle. Reese committed to Florida over Alabama, Michigan and Miami in late July. UF is still recruiting 4-star linebacker
Channing Tindall, but he’s expected to stay in-state and choose the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Confidence level: 100 percent
CB: Brendan Radley-Hiles, Divaad Wilson
Analysis: Wilson joined Florida’s class on Feb. 3 and appears firmly committed despite his desire to officially visit other schools. He already has one trip scheduled to Georgia (Nov. 18). Gators secondary coach Corey Bell wants a second cornerback and has some elite targets, but his best shot may be with Radley-Hiles. Despite his Nebraska pledge, he donned a Gators hat at media day for IMG Academy on July 27, listed UF as his leader last year and plans to officially visit this fall.
Confidence level: 80 percent
S: Amari Burney, Randy Russell, Deontai Williams
Analysis: Safety was Florida’s No. 1 overall need for the Class of 2018 and the staff successfully addressed it. Burney is one of the nation’s top prospects at the position, Russell is an underrated, hard-hitting safety from Miami and Williams is a JUCO player who was committed in high school to UF and UGA. Most importantly, all three commits are solid to the Gators.
Confidence level: 100 percent
