Normally I laugh at these sort of things, but this actually makes some sense.

He couldn't be worse than what we got.

It really does. How the hell could it hurt having him part of the staff?

It could hurt having anyone part of the football staff that the UAA forced on the coach. I doubt Spurrier would have put up with that kind of UAA interference in his program for a minute . I suspect forcing a particular OC or starting QB on some of the recent hires is what led to UF's problems in football.

UF needs to pick the best coach for the job. Then that coach needs to have a complete free hand to bring in the staff that coach wants without anyone from the UAA making demands on the coach.

I don't mind Foley being involved, so long as it doesn't involve football. He failed at that, so it makes no sense to listen to him on that subject.

My friend who works at Longhorn Network sent this to me earlier today. Really interesting read. Nothing really shocking, it just continues to show the same stuff we have already heard.

McElwain was unhappy, was not a good person to work with and resented the fans and the administration.

Clearly this was not a good fit... I hope the next guy is.

Once more, in English? Are you saying that they are moving the baseball stadium to the softball stadium, wherever that is, but I assume out of the way? That would be awesome if we had all the land under the baseball stadium. We could build a state of the art facility with putting greens, slides and a ferris wheel just like the big boys.
UAA budgeted ~$46 million for a new baseball stadium, which will be located near the softball and lacrosse fields (west side of campus) making way for a standalone football facility directly adjacent to the practice field. Track, football and baseball all benefit greatly from this plan as the original proposal called for upgrading McKethan, which would have forced the standalone football facility to butt-up against the track, taking away space from the track stadium.

Exactly. As far as I can read the tea leaves the UAA did not want to have Spurrier back 12 years ago because he was not the easiest guy to work with. (Of course some of this may be wanting to please their boss Machen.) McElwain does not have the ability, cachet or record of Spurrier.

As far as fan expectations and pressure goes, McElwain was at UAL from 2008 to 2011 and must have been not paying any attention, if he missed the whole Urban Meyer saga. So that is on him.

The rest like Marty Cohen and Dooley, yeah. They are cowards. Guys who've been around so long shouldn't be afraid of a single coach[/QUOTE]
... what if the main authority they feared was Foley?

So according to the article it's Spurrier's fault that we suck now because he never asked for any facility upgrades while he was HBC. If Foley is the genius that we were told he was he should have seen the need for upgrades and not waited to be asked. How about if he took a little initiative and did something to help instead of sitting around resting on his laurels.

... common knowledge that Spurrier hated dealing with the paper-shufflers (administration), but he wasn't the type to diss his University in public, to reporters.

All Mac does is blame other people. It's sickening.

"When you look back, I've made mistakes in my life. And yet I stand by everything that occurred. It is what it is."
So much of these aftermac revelations cast clearing light on how to believe that Grier departure meeting. In his typical fashion, Mac told a vague lie and flippantly left Grier and us with the no-details "It is what it is." That's the statement of an arrogant liar not wanting people to dig further.

Lord, I'm glad he's gone ... he decieve me long time.

"But having Foley, his influential and opinionated former boss whom he clashed with at times, still involved as emeritus athletic director was challenging. Multiple sources told ESPN that even though Foley was no longer the AD, it was clear he was still involved in athletic department matters."

That is directly from the article. All these Inspector Gadget's had to do was come to Gatorchatter and we could have told them that and that was the main reason Gator Football is in the sewer!!!!! The puppet master manipulating the puppets!!!! Retired my A$$. Get him out of the continental U.S..

Thank you. Saved me the effort. And apparently others as well.

Spurrier stole the limelight from "The Greatest AD of all time" and no way was Foley going to allow that again.

The kid outlifted the linemen, as I understand it. I know it was politically motivated that he not lift, but I sure would like to have seen his bench press reps in the combine.

Another poster has referred to it as "the cult of Foley". It borders on PSUfan and JoePa. UF, FSU and Miami all had HUGE success as the result of a population boom. Foley was 1 for 4 on football hires even if you give him Meyer.

Remind me again how long ago it was that Spurrier was our coach? We should have gone thru two or three rounds of upgrades since then (not just the stadium.)

I keep up, he retired as AD, got a new job, has an office, so he is "involved" because someone gave him a job after he retired.

Vulcan "retired" wanted to consult for very cheap, boss did not see the value and did not give him a contract. So he has no involvement.

See how that works, when you are totally retired you don't have an office, and don't have input.

Apparently we have a few posters who don't live in reality, They dislike the truth, but then many people believe a lot of things that are not true or dislike reality

A great example is people who think Trump should have been impeached on day one or think he is not really our president since he lost the popular vote.

SAD!!!

Maybe Tebow should be approached regarding the strength & conditioning spot...... bring him home. He'd also be a great recruiting tool.
he definitely should be brought in... As far as Mac... What a dumb, fat, lazy, big mouthed, arrogant SOB he is... GTFO!!!!

I remember that DVD where Tebow was pushing pick up trucks and bashing tires and trees with sledgehammers. Our guys could definitely use some of that.
