You can name fifty more 4-5 loss coaches no doubt. That wasnt the point. We should have kept an interim rather than making the terrible (and relatively expensive for a reject aisle purchase) McElstain hire.

The point isnt to give Shannon 3 years. The point is to not make another bad hire.
Pete Carrol was USC’s 4th or 5th choice for the HC job. Sometimes you just get lucky. It’s not out of the realm of possibility a Norvell or Taggert will shine brighter than we think they can. No chance of that with Shannon.

Anyone see Neuheisel last night? He coached at UCLA and admitted they simply don't have the financial resources of the top programs. Now, if a booster did come along and promise a ton of money, what are they saying? Are they going to build Chip a stadium on campus? Help cover his salary? I'm sure it will help of Chip wants to go to UCLA; if he's truly in the air, its wait and see.

The only ones holding out on Kelly are us the fans. I seriously doubt the administration isn't doing it's due diligence this time and covering their butts with all possibilities. After nearly a decade of football misery, I think they all know that this is the most important decision they'll make in a very long time.

Wasn't implying they weren't. But you're effectively on hold until you outright state you are no longer pursuing a candidate.

I know the process and I also know it's one tremendously good reason why you have competent professionals represent you on the front lines rather than hacks. If we got a commitment, the chances of the Board denying it were slim and none. We'd already done our due diligence on the guy and the SEC.
You would think so. Any yet, I can't think of any decent reason to wait til after FSU. Obviously, even with a signed contract in hand, the other part can withdraw that until UF signed. If it truly "showing respect" to Randy Fvkking Shannon, then I hope heads roll after this is done. We never cleaned out the rest of the Athletic Dept after Fooley was fired. That was a mistake.

Stricklin doesn't have goodwill purchased by national championships. He may not get a chance to fvkk up a second hire.

I can't think of a single positive thing Schlabach has ever said about UF in all his years of reporting.

And UCLA will always be little brother to USC, even if they have a better team on the field. Snoop Dog and Will Farrell aren't going to show up at a Bruins practice anytime soon.

You mean like Chip is on hold?

There is no reason to be on hold beyond the limits of it still being regular season.

I can't for the life of me think we were willing to risk a hire of this importance based on respect for an interim coach. That thinking is really out there.

I'm afraid the past 8 years have really effected our standing as one of the best jobs in college football. Look where we are now. Used to be that if Florida offered you a position you'd be a fool to turn it down. But there has been a lot of damage done to the program starting in Meyer's last year and his proclamation that we are a "broken" program has been proven to be true. We really need a dynamic and dedicated guy to fix it. Kelly would be that guy. Frost would be that guy. Not sure who else fits the bill. If we whiff on both we're going to be religated to mediocrity for another half decade. *sigh*

I think we're 50/50 at this point and I'm okay with it either way. If it doesn't happen, it wasn't meant to be. I just hope we go balls to the walls for Frost if Kelly opts for UCLA. And who knows? Maybe that ends up being the better long-term solution.

I believe Frost is the better long term solution. I've started a thread on it about a week ago that most disagreed with. (Shocking, I know).

That said, I'd be perfectly fine with either one.

If we lose out to UCLA we have to accept the fact we are no longer a top 25 program.

"These are strange, unsettling times for the University of Florida.

The Gators need themselves a football coach.

They offer a terrific job. Maybe one of the best jobs in the country.

Right?

Uh, right? (nervous laugh)

Well, we’ll soon find out. Maybe this isn’t such the give-my-right-arm-for job we all think it is. Maybe the brand has been scuffed up and dented so badly by previous coaches Will Muschamp and Jim McElwain that the Gators simply can’t have their pick of the litter anymore.

In many ways, this is a referendum on just how good this Gators job is.

Will the Gators land a big fish, a trophy such as Chip Kelly or Scott Frost?

Or will they swing-and-miss Bugs Bunny-style over and over again until they try to sell their fan base that some young assistant is really who they wanted all along?"

We're the seller, Chip's the buyer. We're on hold.

No seriously though. What would make CK choose them over us? What does he want that we lack that they have?

Less scrutiny.
Less pressure.
Better weather year round.
A conference he's familiar with.
An easier path to the National Title.

That's about it.

I can think of 100 reasons why Florida is better.
