you know what the saddest thing is....we will never know the truth of how SS messed this thing up because they will spin it and cover for each other and say that CK was never their #1 choice, he was just the only one not coaching at the moment.....and on and on...blah...blah...blah. We will never know how inept they are because to tell the truth would expose them. SS is over his head. AD @ MSU is one thing but AD @ UF is major leagues. He had a three week head start and could not pull it off. UCLA went from outhouse to Penthouse in 48hrs. That is an athletic department that knows how to get things done. Makes me sick to my stomach.

You will never know if SS messed it up or not. None of us will. There is the possibility that Chip just wants to go to UCLA regardless of what we do or offer. Not always something you can do.

I will say this. If SS misses on Chip then at least he swung for the fences. If he didn’t try there would be people complaining that he didn’t even try.

You are indicting SS based only on your "sense of loss" and neglecting the influence of CK's agent Dunn. It's no coincidence that Dunn is a UCLA alum and trends are in UCLA's favor. Seems to me UF made a good faith offer, likely even thought it was a done deal since Fuchs was on the plane, and struck out or got played. Move on.

The real question should be, "Have we been working Plan B, C, etc.?" If not, now some real criticism should be levied.

my point is....if you are going to go swing for the fences....fine, do it....more power to ya....that's what I want them to do. BUT, do it in a way that if you strike the hell out, you don't make the school look bad. You don't get caught because if you do, then everyone else knows they were your second, third, fourth....hell we may have to go off the board at this point to get a coach. I love the effort. The execution was flawed.

Chip Kelly to UCLA reeks of Rich Rod to Michigan. Only difference is UCLA has historically sucked. If the news of them stealing Kelly is true, I will shout for every team that lays the wood to them for the next 10 years.

Oh what the hell...

8:33 p.m.: In speaking with industry experts, including two high-powered agents not intimately involved in this particular search, OnlyGators.comhas been told that it was believed that Chip Kelly was on his way to Florida as recent as early Wednesday. And while some are starting to think otherwise after UCLA’s pitch and insertion into the process, most still hold that belief. Kelly’s greatest hesitation at this time is believed to be the pressure that comes along with coaching and recruiting in the SEC compared to that of the Pac-12, a conference he has already dominated and that is of great familiarity to him. More than anything else, it is believed that Kelly is “just playing the game” at this time, which lends to the below report that he is looking to extract more from the Gators, whether that is decision-making power, money, etc.

8:25 p.m.: CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd reported late Wednesday that Chip Kelly is expected to make his decision on Sunday. He further disputed reports that Kelly had already chosen UCLA and noted that Kelly had previously entered into a “non-binding agreement” with Florida. Furthermore, Dodd reported that “Florida and Kelly are believed to be going back and forth” on retaining current assistants with defensive coordinator Randy Shannon being one of those mentioned.

Wow, just as I suspected. There's a final price on everything.

Big balls time.

WTF? Let Kelly keep whoever he wants and jettison the rest. This shouldn't be a sticking point.

Only a moron would push for any of the current coaches to be retained. This is absurd and highly disturbing if true.

We came home with a "non-binding agreement" aka we came home with nothing. Sorry but there is absolutely zero about any of that that I find comforting.

So, first of all let me thank you for my first DISLIKE. Thought for sure Swamp Ass was going to get that honor. But I digress, it is not a sense of loss, it is a lack of competency in how you handle delicate matters. Again, I deal in high profile employment contracts for a Forbes Top 10 corporation and when we are looking to replace a C-level executive and are looking at other companies who may have talent we are interested in speaking with.....we go to extraordinary length to provide incredible amounts of privacy around our activities. First, on behalf of the party we are interested in speaking with. Second, on behalf of the company we represent so that should we no come to terms with our first effort, the second person of interest is not tainted in the discussion feeling jilted OR empowered to demand more than what they would normally due to the fact that they know we have already be declined. Again, this is not a matter of if he should not have gone after CK, it is a matter of now the whole world knows you failed and you have emboldened and empowered every other person you speak too with a sense of they have the upper hand due to your previous failure.
