Jalon Jones surprises with size
Jones has gone through a growth spurt as a high school junior.
He committed to Mullen last summer when he was Mississippi State and measured in at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds.
When Jones arrived on Florida’s campus Friday, he said Gators co-offensive coordinators Billy Gonzales and John Hevesy, who served in the same capacity on Mullen’s Bulldogs staff, did not recognize him because of his size. He’s now 6-foot-4 and weights 205 pounds.
“It was actually funny when I first got there,” Jones said. “Coach Gonzales and Coach Hevesy didn’t even recognize me. I was really skinny the last time they saw me. I put on about 25 pounds recently and grew a half inch.
“So they didn’t even know it was me at first. They recognized my dad and when they saw him, they realized who I was. They just started laughing. They were like, ‘Man, you were a little skinny thing when we last saw you.'”
