Unless you're a Gator fan...you look at those stats and I can see why no one thinks we have a top 50 RB or why Athlon might think that. I like JS and think he's a good back. I'm not saying I agree but it is more like prove it to me first.

That’s a fair assessment.

Having Cam Akers top 10 though is a joke though, Davis was muuuuch better than Akers.

Can't predict Davis until you see how he has mentally and physically recovered. Might truly need another year off. JS isn't a complete back.

I actually think we may have too many quality backs for any one of them to stand out as far as stats go. I seem to remember Scarlett actually being the back that could break tackles and run violently. Without the oline being able to generate much push, Scarlett generated a lot of his yardage by running hard

I think Davis showed Scarlett and Perine just weren't that great when it came to finding those quick opening holes and making the quick cutbacks etc. Davis had decent power for someone his size also.

I don't hate him but he is a big liability with his pass blocking unless that issue has been resolved and even though he is good at breaking tackles he isnt great at reacting and his rushing avg is not great because of that. I just think him and Perine are not top notch SEC backs in reality - Maybe he will surprise me this year however.

I cant count the number of times I watched JS whiff on blocking when we passed. Heck many of the times he stood there like he didn't even see the defender rushing the QB untouched. I don't remember that happening too many times with the other RBs.

I think a healthy Davis could make Scarlett a situational back for us because he is much better I think. Scarlett got a big break with Davis getting that serious injury.

I’m curious about Davis. Abolverde has made some passing comments that he might not even play this fall. What have you guys heard?

Scarlett is an unknown at this point for the national media. With zero stats from last year and a new offense, how could they project him? Plus I think they are looking at them in their leagues, not adjusting for SEC vs. AAC or MAC.

I’m excited about our newcomers and to see if Lemons can break out. Perine is a solid, dependable back but all that is “gonna” - very little “did” for a publication like Athlon’s to use.

Scarlett rushed for 5 yards a carry in Butterteeths offense. That takes some skill especially considering how pathetic our o-line has been, if he would have gotten more carries in 2016 he would've easily went over 1000 yards.

Well in a year Perine dropped from 4.6 yards a carry to 4.1 yards a carry Davis averaged 6.7 yards a carry. I think Davis also got enough carries to show it wasn't a fluke that he is much better than those other two and his skill lets him overcome some of the deficits of an underperforming O line..

I see Thompson actually increased his average in 2017 however.

Ignore anything Abolverdi predicts. Davis had a quick recovery and could have played in the spring. Malik is 99.9% heart and runs like it. I was stunned at how good he was last year after that goal line faux pas.

Davis' ability surprised me. He broke through DLs so frequently. (Perhaps he should heal out this year?)
Scarlett is a mystery. If his hardships enrage him maybe he'll be productive? Davis was a CFB novice freshman.
Don't we have some good freshman RBs coming in this year?
Anyway, the essence will be the OL's effectiveness

Davis was exciting, one glimmer in a lousy mess of a season. I just hope his recovery in complete and he’s able to resume his career. We have elite orthopedics so he’s got the best medical care. Great backs really help an OL.
