Maybe, Ox, but I know for a fact that msu fans are already laughing at us for hiring their coach and already disliking him.

Well, that’s typical of anytime a coach bails on you for another gig.

I never said games don’t affect the atmosphere around the program. Don’t twist what I said. There are like what, 5 message boards out there that focus on Gator sports. Those 5 message boards have an effect on the narrative surrounding the program. Winning and on-field performance can change the narrative and the perception of the program. I hope Mullen proves the GCMB narrative wrong by putting a product on the field no one expects next year. Piling on and bashing Mullen when Urban Meyer and Kirby Smart had similar looking classes in year 2 at UF and UGA at this juncture in time probably doesn’t help.

Mullen had an awesome transition class. When 3 out of the 5 boards are going all fainting goat when it is only July it probably creates some perception issues for the staff on the recruiting trail. It is nothing that can’t be overcome by a good product on the field in the fall or good salesmanship by a good recruiter, but if I were recruiting for UGA or FSU I would just show the recruits some Gatorchatter or 247 threads just to sow seeds of doubt.

Have you ever visited any other teams' boards because I have. They aren't much different than ours. At least the ones who aren't homer controlled.

I get that recruits want to wait to see how things go on the field. Who could possibly blame them? We've been a complete joke for years both on the field and in the coaching and administrative offices. Look at all of the utter failures and public embarrassments we've had from Meyer's upset tummy, to hiring that cooler squasher Charlie Weiss, to a revolving door of absolutely horrible OCs who introduced the world to coma inducing offenses, to hiring one of the most inept doofusses to ever grace a sideline who then accused the fans of death threats, to losing our best QBs to transfers who end up lighting it up elsewhere and even winning a Heisman, to allowing our facilities to fall decades behind the competition. I could go on and on with a litany of failure. There is no polishing the turd of a football program we've had for the last 8 years. That stink will not wash off quickly.

That said, Mullen was hired to fix that and is being paid top dollar. I am cheering like hell for him to succeed but I'm not going to lie, he's done some pretty head scratching stuff to date. We've pretty much struck out so far with every 5 star in the state of Florida and most of the other top 150 guys in the state. We're Florida's flagship university. That this is happening is an abomination I don't care who's at the helm of the program or what the circumstances are. LSU always gets the best in LA even when they've sucked. Same with Bama, same with Georgia, same with OSU, same with just about all the flagships in their respective states. Sure, they don't get all of the top guys but they do get most of them. We've gotten what, 3 or 4 of the top 150 in Florida? GTFO.

No this is not typical. This when you hire a coach from someone and they immediately hire a better coach for less money and then you give up on a coach before he coaches a game. Consider this: if MSU fans who don't even follow recruiting know that uf has already turned on their hire, how in heaven's name do you think recruits can fail to know it? I am NOT saying that our evaluation of Mullen is wrong, just that we might want to be a little more discreet about it.

If recruits check any social boards they check twitter and Instagram. Not message boards.

Turned on him?

No, Mullinz was one of the most hated assistants to ever coach here before our Cowbell AD skipped out there to talked to his old buddy after failing numerous times.

We are talking about a guy that Fooley and alums hated so much they wouldnt even consider him in the past, and not just because he was 31-39 and 2-17 ranked vs ranked.

yeah I'm sure that's what D1 coaches of rival schools do on recruiting visits with prospects. Log in to gatorchatter and show recruits our message boards. Like, thats totally what happens. For sure.

DSS, posters like that guy and his buddy coming over here trying to make this board into another swampgas are having a hard time dealing w/ reality. He's accused me of "bashing" Mullen. All I do is post up articles, tweets, and basically - facts - about our recruiting. It is what it is. I don't sugar coat it. It needs to improve. If that's "bashing" then he (and his buddy) can go F themselves. Swampgas posters have a hard time dealing w/ reality. Sure, we have some posters here who "bash", but we also have level-headed posters who call it like it is - which is something you can't do at swampgas.

The real problem w/ posters like him (and especially his buddy) is that they put the coach, coaches, and AD above the program. They defended Butters and Nussmeir until the bitter end. Never mind that both of them were running the program into the ground, they fought and argued w/ anyone who dared question what was going on inside the program. "Trust the coaches", "they know way more than you do about football...", "but we won the All-Sports trophy", they went as far as to blame the players (in defense of Butters and Nussmeir....and Nord). It's shameful.

There are only a handful of posters here who are regularly "bashing" Mullen. The rest of us - most of us - are in a wait and see mode. Swampgas posters are already building him a statue because they KNOW he's the real deal (the same they did for Muschamp and Butters). I suppose they spent too much time reading Franz Beard, Buddy Martin, and Bob Redman's bullsh*t philosophy; If you throw enough sh*t at the side of a barn some of it will stick. I hope the swampgas crew is right about Mullen, but facts are facts and I'm one of those in a wait and see.

If they were cool and hip coaches they would be on this board.
