We have trouble landing ten less than the spots we have open as it is.If Clayton wants to leave as well, that is fine with me. I guess you don;t want to see a bevy of transfers, but I fail to see too much negative about guys who never or almost never playing a down transferring. As far as I am concerned it opens the potential of another scholly to extend an offer to another 3 star who might actually turn into a player. I am going with the law of large numbers here or perhaps sheer dumb luck.
I think Lemons can RS, but i think Clayton already burned his RSClayton didn't play a down Saturday, and didn't know where to lineup in limited snaps in the first game.
I'm just puzzled why any kid would quit a few games in. They should tranferd before they enrolled in fall classes.
I point is, if you go through fall practices and you are forth on the depth chart and this is already on your mind, leave and enroll at another school, and sit the one year there. The way these numbskulls are doing it they will basically sit out two years.I think Lemons can RS, but i think Clayton already burned his RS

Exactly, there is almost no reason to quit once the season starts unless you are giving up the game or you are the type of guy with more unstructured time will get really good grades to enhance your academic standing. Lemons does not impress me as that type of guy (btw not such a criticism a little structure is good for me too.)
The only thing I can see coming out of this for Lemon now is:
1. His abilities atrophying by not practicing and playing even very limited time.
2. Too much idle time leading to trouble.
With all the talk of the timing making no sense, this thread has become an echo chamber of the uninformed. Due to the new redshirt rules, by announcing now, Lemmons (and potentially Clayton) preserve a year of eligibility. They are doing the same thing as Hurts. Compete to win the job (apparently not well enough), but leave before being at risk of seeing time in more than 4 games.

Mullen stated in his presser Lemons was staying in class to try to become eligible to transfer and be eligible at his new place.
Figure it out.
I didn’t know that – but it makes sense. He really struggled in high school. Really struggled.

His increase in his ACT score was, shall we say, unbelievable.
Really struggled.
