My feeling is that Franks is about to become largely irrelevant and will likely transfer before next year.
Now that Emory Jones is setup to play as much as they want him to for two of the next three games while still preserving his redshirt., it is very possible that the Idaho game will be Franks' last hurrah as a Gator. If the coaches are getting EJ ready for significant reps in FSU and the Bowl game, which I expect they are doing if for no other reason that it puts FSU in a game planning bind on a game Mullen really needs to win. If that proves true, then those two games will also serve as a ramp up to a new QB competition in the Spring that Franks is almost guaranteed to lose.
As such, I am expecting that the FSU game will be the beginning of a migration towards a QB that conforms to Mullen's full vision of what he wants the offense to do which is obviously not on full display yet. Given that the reason for this is the need to scheme around Frank's likely incurable weaknesses, I think EJ is therefore almost assured of winning that battle and Trask, who was basically on par with Franks this Spring, will likely win out on QB2 mostly because he is clearly comfortable as a permanent backup since he's been performing that role since HS. This will leave them in a place similar to this year depth wise where they have a QB1 in EJ, Trask as a solid QB2 as a safety net for injury insurance, and a talented freshman in JJ who they hope to redshirt while still strategically using his 4 games of eligibility within the new rules. That'll leave Franks as a fourth wheel who I don't think will want to stick around in that capacity. Though this will leave us once again in a bit of a vulnerable position depth wise, we will clearly be in a better position overall with a QB that fits the scheme rather than needing the scheme to be fit to him. Hopefully he'll also have the ability to hit wide open receivers on a more regular basis too while also being able to be much more than just a willing runner in the process.
