Q: Who starts at quarterback vs. Michigan and why?
Young: Going into camp, I thought Malik Zaire was the heavy favorite. I still think he ends up as the guy on Sept. 2, but I don’t think the decision is going to be easy. By all accounts and from the limited windows of practice open to the media, Feleipe Franks has had an impressive preseason and is doing everything he can to put himself in position for the job.

I still believe Zaire prevails because of what he brings to the offense. His versatility and running ability add a valuable dynamic, and he started big games against teams such as LSU and Texas while at Notre Dame. While his track record isn’t extensive, it’s mostly impressive. I like the way the ball comes out of his hand and the timing he’s showed with receivers most days in camp. Unlike two weeks ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if Franks prevailed — he’s looked good — but I still expect Zaire to get the first snaps.

McPherson: I’ve been adamant for some time now that Malik Zaire is going to wind up being Florida’s starter this season. However, after talking with players over the last week, I have the feeling the job is Feleipe Franks’ to lose. All three candidates — McElwain and players all still believe Luke Del Rio is a contender — have had highs and lows during camp, but none have flashed enough to separate from the pack. If it continues to be that way through the rest of camp and into game week, I think Franks will get the call.

Gainesville local sports talk radio host Steve Russell said on his show today that he thinks next week Mac will announce to the team the starting QB. He does not think the news will make it out to the public.

For those of you worried about three guys splitting reps in practice - that's basically the warm ups the reporters are allowed to watch. No one is reporting on the real practice and who is getting reps because no one is there to report on it. For all we know one guy has gotten every first string rep once the reporters were shown the door.

Who do you think wins the job? Don't worry, I'm not asking you to say anything more than uaa will allow.

I was certain Zaire was already the anointed one before fall camp began. Now I'm not so sure. I could honestly see any of the three start the Michigan game.

Personally, I prefer Franks as I think he's the best fit for this offense. If Spurrier had Franks back in the day they would have won some SEC rings together.

Kinda how i see it. I was sure zaire would be the starter but he may be 3rd. The season has a higher ceiling with Franks imo.

Nice to hear that Franks is putting it together. Side question...what offense do we run?

It's basically a pass heavy pro-style offense. The biggest problem with Mac's offense, is it has to be successful on 1st down, or Nuss's butthole puckers up so tight no air can get to his brain. That has to be what happens since everyone knows that's where his head is...

I realize they only see the fastball period of practice. I was just commenting on the fact that if the reps are really being split three ways, that's not good. One guy needs the reps for the two or three weeks leading up to the game with the first teamers. But hopefully Russell is right here and Mac makes a decision. **NOT DELRIO**

It should be down to 2 guys for sure now taking almost all the one reps after that quick media session. I wish we knew who the two were at least.

Franks and Zaire, I have been telling you all along

Haven't you noticed that LDR has been throwing with Trask and Allen all the time?

I'm curious about the DT rotation. We know Clark & Bryan are the starters, but who's next? The three freshman? Is Ancrum in the rotation (all 263lbs of him)?

Same for DT. It sounds like Polite may have worked his way into the rotation, which I'm fine with considering he's more of a SDE. So I imagine Jefferson/Polite/Zuniga (now that Davis is suspended) are the top 3. Sounds like Clayton has worked his way into the rotation as well.

They have had LDR by Zaire also. He just seems to want to keep people guessing. I guess LDR says he is a leader and is just going to tune the fan talk out and work on getting his job back. :D

That was early on. He has routinely been with Trask and Allen for over a week now.

Reality is though, there is some gamesmanship going on, and it is to precisely keep Michigan guessing. Why make it easy on them?
I think they have a pretty good idea who will start, but they aren't going to say.
