Yeah, they had to move his grave because so many people would leave notes, flowers and liquor bottles.
Love the Oakland video.
Rebel flag and all.
I saw the current lineup in Jacksonville a few years back.
Since Johnny Van Zant can barely sing and talked through 90% of the songs, it was awesome how they played Free Bird.
They placed a stand up microphone, with Ronnie’s hat on the top with a flag wrapped around the pole, at the end of the stage runway.
Put a spotlight on it.
Then played the song simultaneously with Ronnie singing it, while displayed on the Jumbotron at Everbank field.
Ricky Medlocke, former drummer, actually played “lead” guitar and the entire song came out fantastic.
I was 18 in 1976, and loved Skynrd .
Actually love all Southern Rock.
Quite a blow when I heard about the plane crash.
Oh , yes , I know all of those except Alex Williams. If you like Southern Rock, check out these bands: Blackberry Smoke, Cody Jinks, Alex Williams, and Aaron Lewis (Aaron Lewis was the lead singer of the late 90's/early 2000's band Staind). They call this genre "Outlaw Country" nowadays, but it's still got a southern rock flare and really good stuff.
I saw Aaron Lewis at the National Harbor MGM casino (DC area) and he was wearing a "Trump 2020, F*ck Your Feelings" t-shirt. lolOh , yes , I know all of those except Alex Williams.
Of course, that live version of “Am I the only One” by Aaron Lewis is outstanding.
But, he has some other good tunes as well.
Blackberry Smoke was on the same card as The Skynyrd show I referenced earlier.
Along with Marshall Tucker, Kid Rock and one of the last performances of Charlie Daniels.
