I think it was spun to where he was shot outside a club late at night. and according to Saban (TPD), he did nothing wrong but be out too late. Makes me think of John Voight's character in Varsity Blues when the kids stole the cop car.

SDS is reporting that the bar owner thinks he shot himself and that's why he wouldn't cooperate. Said he was shooting into the air and ended up hitting himself.
